mediocre wrestle fucker at best ,,,,amazing how far his gob got him

Untrue. Chael Sonnen is not a "mediocre wrestle fucker at best". He's without a doubt the 2nd best middleweight in the world, and should've beat Silva once, possibly even twice if he hadn't have made stupid mistakes. That spinning back fist was just ludicrous. And cost him the fight.

Granted, his trash talking did help in getting him far, but he still had to do the business inside the cage. I honestly still think he could beat Silva.

Thus far hasn't done it against silva and have zero interest in a third fight ,struggled against good old pillow fists bisping whom according to some posters on here is fakin crap.

Sonnen has no plan b, his stand up is shocking never seen such woefull timing from a pro fighter .

sonnen was exposed last night imo

I completely agree with what Axe said above, Chael Sonnen has never been outstruck, in fact he has fought arguably the best striker in the UFC twice, and neither time was he outstruck on the feet. Did you watch the first fight? Sonnen dominated Silva standing up.

Besides, it's not as if he's a striking specialist. But his striking is definately not overrated, it's quite effective as far as im concerned.

Exposed in what way though? If you mean exposed as the 2nd best middleweight in the world by arguably the greatest fighter ever, then yes I agree he was exposed.

Shit dreading a new avatar! Laughing Remember Wanderlei is a nice guy and no one wants to see a picture of him laid out and it will never be forgiven Evil or Very Mad Sad

Fair play to Anderson, what a finish, reminded me of Evans blasting Tito in the Ribs with a knee in a similar way. Ill have to say I thought it was illegal before the replay but it was a well timed shot. Sonnen was rocked a bit before he went for that wild Backfist, the 2nd straight right as he is coming in leaves his brains scrambled, I wouldnt critisize a rocked fighter going out after being blasted with a knee and then GnP'ed, Anderson is a great finisher.

Sonnen fought well, I still think he is a clear cut number 2. I wonder if Lhw will be the next move. Even after tonights performance Id back him against Shogun or Hendo. I dont know if he could handle Evans, I think that might be a bad fight for him but Machida would be my dream fight for him. Even 195lbs vs Machida would be amazing.

If he stays at Mw he rematched Bisping I reckon. Lombard will probabally get a title shot if he looks impressive against Boetsch and I reckon he will. Im not mad keen to see him fight Bisping, Franling is more a fight id like to see him in.

Mendez Bodypunch was something else, havnt seen anyone put down with a shot like that since Guillard dropped someone with straight to the body from front to.

Forrest saying training with Gustaffson makes him think he is only top 25ish quality makes sence. He is Lucky judges dont think much of Knockdowns some times. Id still like to see him fight Lil Nog, Wanted it for ages and Its a fight I think he would take, I dont think he wants young up a comers right now because I could see him retiring in a year or 2 himself.

Maia looked in great shape, pitty about the fight but Glad he got a win, Want him thrown in at the deep end, a fight with Fitch would be great because I cant see Fitch lasting 25mins on top of him, Maia would get a sub.

Le Vs Cote just looked too friendly or something, a sparing session? Le didnt look like he has much left in the gas tank at this stage of his career so its going to be interesting to see who they match him up with next, I dont think he would turn down a fight with anyone either, Personally I think Stann or Leben if they give him a big name. Either of them would be fun fights.

alight lads...been away for a few week and missed the predictions things Sad gutted.

Suprised at how much love there is for Sonnen on here

I like the pantomime badguy and really didnt have a favourite going in so it didnt matter to me who won....but in my opinion the difference in performace from the 1st Silva fight to the Bisping and 2nd Silva fights dropped massively....the only difference is TRT.

Compare the 1st & 2nd fights, 2nd rounds....1st fight 2nd round he rags Silva like a child silva has no comeback, cant wriggle free or raise any attach at all...2nd fight couldnt get him down, panicked and quit...and that isnt solely down to silva TDD imo.

really strange this is getting overlooked by fans & the UFC alike

I said the same thing I thought he quit and what I found odd as soon as the fight was stopped he was right up on his feet...Now I'm going to start some tin hat theory that the fight was rigged BTW just saying I found the finish odd. Laughing

The finish reminded of the Erick Silva and Charlie Brenneman fight where Charlie just turtled up gave up his back and let Silva finish him with a rear naked choke.

Sonnen was using TRT this time. And against Bisping. It's legal, he's allowed use it, it's not an issue.

Against Bisping he won the fight comfortably. He easily won two of the three rounds, could even give him all three. That was after he was given a different opponent to who he was preparing for very late. He was preparing for a powerful right handed wrestler with KO power. Bisping is a totally different fighter. Bisping on the other hand was preparing for a left handed grappler. Exactly what Sonnen is. The change in opponents made the fight much more difficult for Sonnen.

As for the Anderson fight, he was beating the piss out of him AGAIN until he threw that stupid spinning backfist. They've been in for 4 and a half rounds and a 1 and a half rounds and for all but about 40 seconds, Sonnen has beat the piss out of Anderson. He's made two mistakes, and Anderson has capitalized on them. In case you missed it, Anderson was preventing takedowns by grabbing Sonnen's shorts.

What makes Anderson a great fighter is that he capitalizes on mistakes. Sonnen has made two against him in fights Anderson was being well beaten in, and Anderson has taken advantage and pulled out the wins.

As for the finish, it was weird. it was also quite quick considering nearly all of Anderson punches misses, hit the arms or were just glancing blows. Only about 3 of them actually landed flush. Sonnen didn't complain though so fair enough.

It was the knee that did the damage. Perfect knee, not sure what all the BS about it in the press is about. Some saying Anderson threw it at the face but that's crap. If Anderson had thrown it at the face, he'd have hit the face. His striking is pin point accurate. Meanie will be able to explain the medical terms of this better than me but a knee to the sternum like that can cause the chest to contract and temporarily stop the lungs from functioning properly. Sonnen's had a cracked sternum before(in the Marquadt fight) and it's likely that when that knee landed it caused his chest to push in and took all the breath out of him and made it difficult to get his breath back. Fighting Anderson Silva while struggling to breath is not something that is possible.

Sonnen most definitely has what it takes to beat Anderson physically. His skill set is perfect for beating Anderson. He has good hands (has outstruck pretty much everyone he's fought, including Anderson TWICE), a great chin, the best wrestling in MMA, incredible control on the ground and he's developing his BJJ(including his BJJ defence apparently).

I said after the fight that I thought he might quit but I don't think he will. I could see him going to Strikeforce to get himself back on track. There's nobody there at MW or LHW that could beat him IMO. Send him there, give him back to back title shots after a warm-up fight, then bring him back to the UFC and set him loose on the post Anderson-MW division. He's 35 and although he's had a lot of fights, he's younger now than Dan Henderson was when he won his first major title (Pride "WW" - MW) and Hendo's done pretty well for himself since then.

Sonnen's still the number 2 MW in the world, there's no question about that.

Sonnen has mentioned in past how he underperforms in finals. He is abit of choker it seems. And did confess to seeing a sports psychologist for it, also mentioned he "only" got the silver medal and how he lost the first fight with Anderson despite 1.5 minutes left.

Its actually cringeworthy when you think about his 2 fights with Anderson. Really didnt do himself justice loosing because of ridiculous mistakes.

Maybe Weidman tonight can prove he is a contender and perhaps he has what it takes mentally to get the job done. He seems really confident in himself and isnt afraid of any challenge, the fact he took the Maia fight on such a short of notice was impressive. And him controlling the fight and winning easily is amazing.

He also wrestled in 8 national championships matches and lost 6 of them despite being favourite to win all bar one. Definitely a mental block. He was too anxious against Anderson. After Anderson grabbed his shorts and then punched him on the break while still clearly holding the shorts, he got pissed and had a rush of blood to the head. Had he kept his composure, he wouldn't have thrown that spinning backfist.

Sonnen only fell after he missed the backfist because he was rocked before he threw it, watch the 2nd right hand Anderson hits him... he is still rocked from it when he throws the backfist. It wasnt that he missed it and got finished, he was hurt before then.
