Dammit - Shogun vs Machida II not until MAY 2010

Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua will get his rematch against UFC light-heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida on May 1st, it has been reported.

“Dana White just told me: Lyoto Machida will defend UFC light heavyweight belt against Shogun Rua May 1st in Montreal,” Dave Wetzel of Yahoo! Sports twittered a short while ago.

The two first met at UFC 104, with Machida retaining his title by way of a controversial unanimous decision after a five-round battle.

Rua was not alone in feeling the decision went the wrong way and fans began calling for a rematch immediately - as did UFC president Dana White.

A Montreal event has not been announced for 201 but the city is fast becoming a staple of the UFC circuit and one would reasonably expect Georges St. Pierre to be on that card.

However, White told the post-UFC 105 press conference that St. Pieree’s title defence against Dan Hardy would likely take place in Las Vegas.

Why are title fights taking so long to come around?? thats like 7 months after the original fight, most guys are fighting every 3 months or so in general so why are title holders gettin special treatment.

Hopefully Shogun will train hard on bringing something new to bring to the fight the suprise MAchida but can't see him beating him this time around.

7 months is a long lay off... I wonder if Shogun will take a fight to keep him busy? Id really like to see Shogun vs Rampage 2 if UFC could tempt him back. But I suppose Shogun doesnt want to risk loosing his Shot.

The main thing is though that the fight is on

There's been a lot of disappointments in the UFC lately for example the injuries to many top calibre fighters, rampage pulling out of the Rashad fight

I'm just glad this fight has been scheduled-Shogun certainly earned himself a rematch in the last fight

7 months is long but remember Machida had a hefty suspension from the Athletic commission so it is understandable.

I like the idea of Shogun having another fight before hand but why risk a Title shot ?

UFC could do with a big name right now and Shogun stock is as high as its ever been. I wonder if they could give him a catchweight fight so the outcome wouldnt matter... he could fight fot Riches imaginary 195lbs belt! Id like to see him keep busy, he is a young figher and should stay busy, Sitting about for 7 months isnt good for him

I can't see the advantage of drinking any piss other than Josh Barnett's which would make your biceps grow lol

I read in Fighters Only Magazine that he reckons the body can't absord all the nutrients from food the first time round so he gives it two goes just to make sure.
Think i'll stick with once!!!!

Machida had 8 weeks banned with no contact training because of the damage Shogun did to him in their fight (truth), Shogun could have fought again the next day.
