jones was tested for the first time in his carear by machida and he took a few legit shots, n took them well
his short elbow cut machida bad on the forehead and the standing choke was extremley impressive, as he earnt your respect yet ?

nog must be devastated he nearly stopped mir but like most thought including rogan which was funny went for a choke instead of carrying on with strikes, then for me the best sub ive seen from mir what a kimura breaks his arm forces him to tap extremley impressive no 1 has ever done that to nog in mma

lil nog delivered a nice knee which dropped tito before finishing with some nice gnp

ebersole was a bit fortunate in a fairly dull fight

Jones didnt take them well at all went flying across the cage thats hardly taken them well , if he was up against the cage i reckon he would have been a goner , heavy hitter would have ko'd him .he took machida down and delivered his usual elbow strikes .Cant understand why other fighters dont follow suit as bone to bone delivers cuts which is a fight stopper . IMO the lhw division is piss weak now with alot of fighters getting old or overated. Good finish by jones tho!!

I stand by what i said about jones pillow punches with weak leg kicks keep this guy standing and he he gets ko'd saw holes all over his stand up game last night the elbows do alot of damage for jones . I do rate jones as a good fighter but what is in front of him is crap at the mo . Machida had jones in bother in first round but was unfortunate enough to get caught with an elbow which finished it for him .

I dunno about that, i don't think Jones was ever in trouble from any of Machidas shots. Fair enough his stand-up has holes, but noone has been able to exploit them yet. And he was the one who dropped machida before the choke, so he did fine in the stand up. Machida is just awkward for anyone i think. We saw how Jones dealt with more 'orthodox' fighters like Shogun and Jackson.

I think Mir-Nog was FOTN for sure, what an insane comeback and a really sweet sub with the double reversal. That said, Mir didn't look great on the feet up to that point, and he can be bullied in the clinch too.

Surprised that Zombie KO'd Hominick, but fair play to him. I thought Hominick was a sure thing in this fight.

Some fun fights on the undergard too, with nice finshes. I had an absolutely shocking round, but Mir saved my predictor score somewhat!!

IMO Jones's stock went up last night, did Machida catch him? Yes, but TBH, there's very few fighters that Machida wouldn't cause problems. The major question mark regarding Jones, was his ability to take a shot, and he did take some decent ones last night, the take down and subsequent cut, was a game changer like, and I do think that Machida paniced a little immediately afterwards, I would have liked to see the fight hit the later rounds, it was a very interesting clash. It's amazing, how just a few fights ago, folk were saying that the LHW div was stacked, a couple of fights featuring Jones, and now you reckon it's light? IMO, Machida (despite last nights loss), Evans, Davis and Hendo (with his striking ability), have all got chances to seriously test Jones.

Was gutted for Nog, I really thought that he had that fight in the bag, a little more composure when he dropped Mir, and the ref surely would have stepped in. That said, brutal sub and that shoulder/arm's going to take some fixing.

Those body shots from Lil Nog looked brutal, Tito said that he wants to finish his career with a W, curious to see who they give him.

Hominick just got caught cold, leave yourself that open when throwing, and you're probably going to get put to sleep (unless you're fighting Bitchping).

TBH, as fun as any fight involving Hendo is, I couldn't see him beating Jones. Jones is too clever and has such a reach advantage, that I could see him picking Hendo apart. It's one thing 'not giving a monkeys about his striking', but when someone has over a foot of reach advantage and has such unique striking, you don't have a huge chance. Sure Hendo has the one punch power to KO him, but, he's got to get to him first. Jones has, size, speed, a foot reach advantage and has youth on his side, those elbows would, IMO, cut Hendo to pieces.

The two guys I genuinely thought could trouble Jones were Davis and Machida. I still think that Machida has the skills to beat him, he needed to keep the fight on the feet, and use his speed and guile. I would love to see a rematch.

Machida is a great striker, but by no means is he a big puncher.

Jones ability to take a punch is still in question, personally i think when he takes a good punch from a good puncher..he is gone.
He is too top heavy to be able to take a punch.

And the guys who do have 1 punch power cant get anywhere near him and end up being schooled everywhere in the fight.

That was a surreal night of shocks and ridiculously bad predictions (Thank God for Frank Mir's wonderful intervention) Although my heart & hate wanted a Machida win my head knew the massive size difference would be a factor really want to see Jones at HW I don't see his Mammoth size and reach being a factor there.

Canada had a rough night eh, Apart from Bocek and Yves's homer Canada got trounced royally and It's aboot time Tito retired eh,.

Another note, and i dunno who saw the fight, but this fight was controversial on chatbox last night.

Myself and Payne thought that Walel Watson was robbed pretty badly against Yves Jabouin (especially 30-27, that was a joke)

I think Watson won the 2nd round, and clearly won the third, almost finishing the fight in both.

I would have had 29-28 for Watson.

How did you guys see it?

The judging in MMA is the biggest blackeye on the sport.
the ten point system isn't ideal as we all know,but I don't think that is the real problem,it's the clueless blind bastards that are supposed to know what they are watching,who clearly don't.
Not only was the Yves fight a prime example of a judge that clearly should have no buisness scoring a MMA fight,two judges actually gave Bones the first round against Machida aswell.
I'm a huge Bones fan,but even i'm not blind enough to not aknowledge machida won the first rd.

Here you go,Nelson Hamilton should be made to only judge on small regional shows untill he actually learns the sport he's suppossed to be judging.

People are saying Jones is the best thing in MMA right now and I agree. People called Cain invincible and I didnt buy it but I buy it about Jones, he looks every bit as good as Liddell, Wanderlei or Shogun in their primes.

Machida is on of the best Lhw's ever, 33 years old and looked in a career best shape and no matter what those judges scored he wont that 1st round, I still saw an upset happening because he is quick enough to land on Jones standing. Something I worry Hendo might not be.

Jones is Fucking incredible though. Yeah you can pick holes in his game, say if a big puncher lands or whatever, I remember when Fedor was on top of his game people tried to see flaws but like him Jones is really well rounded and like Fedor in his Prime fights his own game and imposes his style and can finish by Sub or KO or trip people to the matt and mash them up.

Jones isnt at the top of a weak devision. Rashad is fantastic right now, Hendo just beat Shogun and Fedor back to back, Machida and Shogun are all time greats and young enough, Lil Nog is back to winning and looking devistating, Phil Davis could go on to be great... I could go on but Its clearly not a weak devision Jones is just a great figther.

Dont want to talk about the Nog fight too much Nog seriously impressed me. I hope Dana isnt going to have the talk with him because Nog could clearly hang with Barnett, Werdum, Carwin you name it. He said he wants to be top 3-5 and I reckon at his age its still possible to get back there. I believe he is a better figter than the man who beat Sylvia for his title.

Mir, great subs, great striking (at times!), 260lbs, hes going to be a contender and get another shot. I really hope we see him fight Cain, Overeem, Barnett and Werdum. There are a few cracking fights for him.

Im not totally sold on him probabally for a different reason than most. Most write off his chin after last night but I noticed Nog pushing him about like he was the heavier man at times, Mir is really supprisingly weak for one of the biggest guys in the devision. I see someone like Overeem or Cain puting him up against the fence and wrecking him as bad as Carwin did.

The man has got better and better since having to face Wrestlers back to back. No one is Wrestlefucking Lil Nog and his hands and Subs are deadly, He will Smash Griffin, Id back him against Shogun in a rematch, he would batter Rampage, he has already beat Hendo.

I reckon there were a few people who Shit on him on the Armbar but he is going to contend for that title. Its my 2012 prediction.

I thought Cholish looked good,but I think he was in there with a poor opponent.Lovely roll for the armbar and then scramble to get on his back to finish the fight though.



the Attonito - Hecht fight was a weird one,Rich dominates the first round by taking hecht down and controlling him for 5 mins,he comes out in the second,goes for the takedown again to repeat the first,but eats two short elbows while he's holding a double leg,to the side of the head,that drops him and hecht pounces for the finish.
I thought they were to the back of the head at first,but on replays they were legal shots..



Bocek vs lentz was a pretty boring fight really,but in saying that I enjoyed watching bocek give Lentz a taste of his own medicine and just ride him out for rds.



The next fight was the one I thought Watson was robbed and Yves got gifted a home town decision.
The first round was close,but Yves took it for me,the second rd was all about Yves trying to close the distance,but not being successful.watson kept the distance and used his size to score with long kicks and punches,Yves did finish the round with a takedown,but ended up stuck in a tight guillotine,which i thought was the end of Yves,he did just pop his head out at the buzzer.
In Rd 3 they stand up for a while,Yves lands a solid kick but again watsons length means he lands more shots,so Yves shoots for the takedown,watson ends up on top and sinks in the darce,Yves eventually gets out,after watson tries to con the ref in telling him he's out and they go back to throwing strikes and spinning kicks,which again due to his range watson lands more.29-28 watson on my scorecard.





Makdessi vs Hallman was one of the biggest mismatches I've seen for a long time,it looked like a WW against a FW not a LW.
Hallman just rushes him to the cage,easily takes him down,well after Makdessi eventually stopped holding the fence,easily controlls and moves him into position and sinks in the choke.
I asked the question last night,because of the missed weight by Hallman,does makdessi get a % of his purse to show or he total purse,show and win bonus?



Hamman still managed to show a good chin,but when you eat that many clean shots on the chin in that a short space of time,by a guy that looks like he has alot behind his punches,your going down.
very good performanmce from Philippou,he looked a beast in that fight.



I thought the last two fights were one sided quick blow outs,but it just got even worse,well for Krystoff anyway.
they sqaure up,Igor lands a quick left,right that hurts krystoff,he covers up and backs off,Igor follows throwing bombs,Krystoff slips and fall,Igor continues whaling away on him putting him out cold.
KO by Igor in 35 seconds
I think he was out cold longer than the actual time the fight lasted.



I couldn't get quicker could it,yes it can,especially when hominick decides to come out like a crazy fool throw a wild haymaker miss and run on to the Zombies straight right,down the pipe,and then eating a few more quick punches,while on his back to put him out,7 seconds,your out of here Hominick.





after that run of quick fights we actually got a good 3 rd battle between Patrick and Ebersole.There was alot of clinching and fighting for position,but i thought it was a good evenly matched battle.
Patrick had a few good sub attempts,but Ebersole for me did more to win the rds I gave him.
I had Ebersole winning rd one and three to give him a 29-28 win,but I thought we were going to get another home town decision after the Yves gift,not that it would of been a complete robbery,it was a very close fight.
It nearly happened but thankfully Ebersole was IMO, on the correct end of the split decision.




Tito actually started this fight pretty well and got lil nogs attention early,landing a hard right and an upper cut,but then in the next exchange lil nog lands a left that makes Tito wince,you could see that,"oh shit" expression come over Tito's face,it was like de ja vue from when chuck hurt him and made him cover up with his back on the cage.
nog then throws a big knee that drops Tito and lil nog goes wild,throwing everything but the kitchen sink at the downed Tito,tito's done,but most of Lil Nogs punches are hitting tito's arms and i was starting to get scared that lil nog was going to punch himself out and let Tito back in this,but lil Nog moves his assualt to tito's rib cage,where shortly after,the ref steps in and tito's is left curled up,crying out holding his ribs.
the Tito comeback is officailly derailed,and i can't personally see him getting another fight in the UFC.






this was a great fight,that went completely opposite to how everyone predicted,all we ever heard was,that mir's stand up was to good for nog and there is no way Mir subs Nog.
Well what did we get,Nog completely out classes mir standing,rocks him and is seconds away from finishing Mir,but this was one time where going to his bread and butter and following his instinctual BJJ game was the completely wrong chioce,going for that loose anaconda choke gave mir time to recover,get on top of nog and snap his shoulder with an evil kimura,man I went hot when I saw and heard that thing pop

great comeback from Mir and I know I got some shit for saying this last night,since mir is now 2-0 over nog,but i want to see a 3rd as i think they are so well matched and put on good fights.




God i was pumped for this main event after watching those last two fights.I was completely confident leading up to this fight that my boy bones was winning this,but just as buffer was announcing them,i started really doubting him and the nerves were kicking in big time.
Then after watching machida win the first rd by catching bones a few times with those quick bull rushing counters,I was on the edge of my seat,shouting,clinch,take him down,this shit ain't working mate.
It was a close first rd,because jon was using his distance well,but machida took it because he landed the most meaningful big shots.
It wasn't the most action packed round full of big clean shots,but it was still a really good round,that set the tone of the fight perfectly,i was proper pumped after that round.

Jones came straight out and took the centre of the cage,machida was moving around well,looking good and confident.
machida tried another one of his quick rushing counters,but misses,so do Jones's counters,but then Jones catches him with a big right and gets the takedown gotch ya.
Bones lands a couple of his trademark elbows opening a nasty cut on machidas forehead,Machida gets to his feet,while bones is trying to take his back,but the ref steps in as machidas head is pouring blood.
they start back in the clinch,where jones immediatly hurts machida with a big shot and pushes him up against the cage,puts him in a front choke and puts him out cold.

great performance,by a brilliant fighter.
he's basically cleared a division in a year beating,3 of the most highly respected LHW's ever back to back,and the scarey thing is,he's still so young and is still improving.
I don't think you'd get long odds on this kid taking the crown of the GOAT and holding it for a very long time.

id likea 3rd mate as well just worried about nogs injury hope it isnt as bad as it looks,

I couldn't agree more with Ben regarding the whole Jones phenomenon. My only doubt, was his ability to handle a top level striker, I think he's certainly gone a long way towards proving that now. The main obstacles to him becoming a longtime champ, have to be Evans and Davis.

I would love to see Mir v Cain, purely because I cannot stand Mir, and I think that Cain would demolish him. With regards to Nog, I'm not certain that he's going to be able to cope with the top 2 or 3 guys at HW, but, he proved that there's still some fight in him, would like to see him against Carwin.

Pete I agree about the Elite striker thing. He is far from perfect but Machida is as elite a striker as they come, if the fight stayed striking who knows but Jones is so well rounded, he has a plan B with those great TD's and Elbows and a Plan C in some nasty subs. The Lhw Devision has some great fighters but some really 1 dimentional guys. Hendo he can take down and brutalise, Mousasi or Forrest too, Davis or Rashad id back him to outstrike or a sneaky Sub...

Yeah I dont like Mir either mate. Id love to see Cain put him against the Fence and have a go at outdoing Carwin. I wish we say Mir vs Randy back in the day, I think Nog showed Mir didnt learn a lot from Carwin caving his head in.

I know im in a real minority here about Lil Nog but he had one clear weakness that he has really worked on. Davis saw he wansnt getting a double leg easy so switched to singles and they worked. Tito saw this clearly and worked for a single... Nog probabally drilled this every day, like Bones Nog is now massivley well rounded. I think put Nog in with Bonnar and Griffin back to back, give him 2 wins over big tall rangey guys and he would make a good contender. What Lhw's you see beating him right now? I think Forrest is a likley next fight, if not maby Franklin. Matyushenko/Gustafsson seems a step backwards for someone with a big name, Franklin knocked a fight with Gustafsson back for not being a big enough name.

Tito Ortiz has only been finished in 1 round one other time, 1997 against Mezger. Liddell, Frank Shammy, Evans etc.. couldnt get it done in a round. This is a man who stopped Hendo and Overeem inside the distance, Knocked Prime Shogun down standing in a really close fight.

Absolutely gutted for machida he was controlling jones in the first but got careless I was screaming for him to win!!!

Tito should not be cut! He's been in great form recently, let him finish his career on a high hes done a shit load for the UFC!
