Crocop suffers injury - Mir fight in jeopardy!

As per croatian portal index.hr Mirko injured his eye and fight against Mir could be canceled:

"Mirko Filipovic suffered a serious eye injury in training today.

From sources close to Cro Cop team comes info that injury is of such nature that his next fight against Frank Mir is questionable".

If he does have to pull out, i wonder if Mark Hunt would be the one to replace him? Can't think of anyone else that A)Would be ready to fight on time, and B)Would be willing to take such a fight on short notice.

That would make sense,for Hunt to fill in.

It would be a bad knock on what already looks quite a weak card,it definitely isn't a main event fight anymore.

No, but it's still a solid co-main event fight. I think it's an OK card. Without Mirko it will lack a true marquee name but Sherk-Dunham, Serra-Lyttle and Mir-Whoever all contain former champions. Then there's Bader-Nog which could be a great fight. And of course, Meathead is on the card!

According to major Croatian news portal Index.hr, Saturday’s UFC 119 headliner between Frank Mir and Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic could be in serious jeopardy. However, sources close to the bout say the report is without merit and that the bout will take place as planned.

"Cro cop is fine. Rumor is not true," UFC President Dana White posted to his Twitter account on Friday.

Croatia’s largest and one of its most accredited news sites states that the native kickboxer, who turned 36 a week ago, sustained a severe eye injury during his final sparring session on Friday. “Cro Cop” has been preparing for the Mir bout with regular training partners Igor Kolakusic, Ivan Hippolyte and Dean Lister in Zagreb, Croatia.

The Index.hr report also states that Filipovic had already consulted several eye specialists in his home country but was unable to obtain their clearance to fight. The popular knockout artist is scheduled to depart for Indianapolis this Sunday before squaring off against Mir on Sept. 25 at the Conseco Fieldhouse.

Nokaut.com, an MMA news site with strong ties to Filipovic, called the report false, and said it has training footage of the Croatian's final training session with no hint of an injury having transpired.

“Cro Cop” had only replaced fellow Pride Fighting Championships superstar Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira as Mir’s opponent a month ago.

It's probably just a recurrence of the injury sustained in the JDS fight. He'll have no difficulty fighting and even less difficulty pulling that horseshoe out of Mir's ass and beating him over the head with it

I didn’t want to cancel the fight under any circumstances. I took this fight to do a favor to UFC. I wouldn’t do that fight for anybody else than UFC. I am ready to take the risk but I can say you this, all the money in the world is not worth getting my eye injured but at this point there is no chance in hell to back up. Frank Mir is gonna be my toughest fight in my UFC career.”

wow this isnt good, Crocop is looking very negative and there are videos up of him sparring in perperation for this fight and he looks SLOW. You have to remember Crocop has had a Dan Severn amount of fights! Considering the Kickboxign has done. I just think his body has taken too much shit and this is the end of him.

You really do have no hope Ben. Even if CroCop has had a billion fights, i still wouldn't be able to completely write him off like you have with this fight.

It's not the end of him at all, Mir is a very winnable fight, and even if Mirko does lose it's hardly the end of him. Maybe he could retire.. but it wouldn't be because of this fight.

Exactly, Ben posting these videos of sparring has no bearing on how he'll be in the Mir fight.

Crocop doesnt have "K-1 level striking" anymore 90% of K-1 guys would make short work of him. Crocop is done.

He moves slower.
He doesnt have the same power.
His head isnt in the fight.
He hasnt prepared enough for this one.
He is an old generation fighter and hasnt moved with the times to a better camp.
He is injured.

Its a long list why I cant see Crocop winning, hate to be the negative one but I think Mir is going to come out of this one looking good.

Maby Crocop wont retire after this but my thoughts are he should take a year out and rest up old injuries. He should stay off the weights a bit, Drop to 205 and move to a good Team like AKA and step up his game for one last run.

i kind of a gree with both parties, sparring has no effect on what happens in a fight. but at the same time cro cop has not looked anywere near his best lately and this eye thing makes it even worse.

i personally hope cro cop pulls out an amazing win i really do.
