TOP PPV FIGHTERS Empty TOP PPV FIGHTERS

Post  Paddyjock Wed Feb 24, 2010 9:47 pm

Just back from London tonight and I was reading the latest copy of Fighters Only Magazine on the plane on the way back up. One article got me thinking, the UFC has 5 Champions, many ex Champions, Hall of famers and TUF winners fighting on their cards but who are the best fighters to watch in the UFC. I was thinking about it and in my head at least, I came up with some rather strange answers. I guess the question is if you had to pay £30 for each UFC event to watch on TV and there were no internet streams available (or downloads or online videoes) what are the top 10 fighters (right now - your not paying for past history) most likely to make you pay your hard earned cash to watch? Mine are probably as follows:

    1. BJ Penn - gives you everything, crisp stand up and world class ground game
    2. Belfort - just so excited to see what he can do in the UFC
    3. W Silva - comes to bang
    4. Jones - so unorthodox and a joy to watch
    5. Guida - never say die attitude you have to admire
    6. Florian - I just really like his style and the his tactics for each fight
    7. Rampage - loads of people I'd love to see him fight!!
    8. Hardy - more out out of support than anything else
    9. A Silva - don't like him that much but he puts on a masterclass with every fight
    10. Velasquez - of all the heavyweights I think he is the most exciting to watch

Just missed out: Shogun, Lesnar, Jones, Etim, Siver.

So there is only 2 current UFC champions on my list. These are the guys I enjoy watching fight and would gladly pay good money to watch. Guys like Randy, Machida, GSP are great fighters but not people I enjoy watching especially.

I'd be more excited to watch Belcher v Credeur than say Chuck v Randy even though Chuck v Randy would do huge PPV figures!!

    Thoughts?

    mine in no particular order:

    (only ufc fighters)

Gomi, BJ Penn, Shogun, Crocop, Wand, Brock, Cain, Dos Santos, GSP, Anderson Silva.

there are some more entertaining fighters than a couple of these,

but these are the TOP fighters who are exciting to watch,
i think being a world class fighter, being one of your favourites for whatever reason, and being exciting are the 3 criteria behind splashing the cash to see someone fight.

surprised that you would shell out £30 to see Randy or Rashad fight.
neither are particularly exciting fighters except when they get battered.

or £60 to see dos santos fight Laughing

I very much enjoyed Rashad taking out Chuck, and Forrest. And his last few fights have done good numbers. Randy is Randy simple as that.

What Crocop fights in the UFC encourage you to pay $30 for? Bar the GG fight of course.

thats more like it, there are few (if any) more exciting world class fighters in the history of mma than Takanori Gomi.

when he is on form, he is incredible to watch, the manny pacquiao of striking in mma in my opinion.
the kawajiri fight shows this, probably his most dominant performance in one of pride's best ever fights which arguably was for the title of #1 lw in mma!

even when he is horribly out of shape its a great show, look at the Diaz fight, that is some people's favourite ever fight!
his last fight was 25 minutes of excitement aswell.

i think no-one knows who he is in the USA, thats why it is on spike.

plus Is Florian ready to ppv headliner again so soon after getting DOMINATED by bj?

incase you are wondering, my favourite fighters:
    1. Crocop
    2. Gomi cheers

    UFC Fighters only?

Silva, Belfort, Machida, Wanderlei, BJ Penn, Cain, Pitbull Alves(amazed no1 else has mentioned him!), the old Shogun, the old CroCop.

    I think that's about it.

If we're talking solely UFC, then for me:

BJ - don't like his personality but every recent fight has been a showstopper and he's a monster at LW

Lesnar - there's always hope that someone unleashes a Hendo-Bisping on him.

GSP - Dryhumper or not, his focus and athleticism is an absolute joy to watch.

Wand - Look up 'fighter' in the dictionary, there's a picture of him.

Franklin - Not so much lately but he always comes to bang, never on the back foot.

Rampage - has some boring fights on his resume, but always builds up the anticipation.

    Non-UFC:

Frank Shamrock - Born entertainer, legend of the sport.
    Fedor - no explanation needed.
Nick Diaz - Cock, but fast becoming a great champion.

Those spring to mind at first....
