Xande to 185lbs

Xande Ribeiro is still under contract with Sengoku untill August, he is cutting to 185lbs and thinks he will make a good adition to the UFC or Strikeforces Mw devisions.

Just though Id post the link after we were talkining about him on here as a Lhw contender, I think he is a great fighter and will be a potentail contender in either organisation.

Intresting, he was a small LHW but he will be a pretty big MW. I think he can handle the weight cut well enough. He can be a force in either organisation with his BJJ skills but he needs to train everything else. Imagine Xande vs Jacare or Xande vs Maia.

Xande's BJJ is just insanely good. The guys at ATT think that the only man on the same level as Marcelo Garcia is Xande and Ricardo Liborio rates Marcelo as the best grappler that's ever lived!

That good? I take it at Mw he will be a level above Maia, Jacare, Filho, Palhares etc.. there are some great BJJ Mw's.

I was laughing at Wanderleis BJJ BB, I watch his only Submission win and I forgot who bad it was, It was listed as a RNC, I suppose because he was on his back and Choked the guy but It was the Crudest looking thing!

Its hard to seperate BJJ BB's. Any Idea if the top Mw BB's have fought each other?

I think he will join Strikeforce if he decides to fight in the US.

In MMA or in grappling?

Jacare is 2-1 with Maia, i know that much.

and Jacare's 2 wins were in ADCC (both subs i think) and Maia was in gi-world championships (by points)so i reckon Jacare has the better jiu jitsu, and especially in MMA.

edit: Also Jacare beat Almeida in 2003, and has come on a ton since then.

didnt know they had grappled, that cool... UFC hake out that Maia is the best BJJ guy going, Didnt realise Jacare was better. I take it JAcare is the best Mw BJJ'er then?

there is a video on yt of Jacare beating Xande in the Mundials in 2004, thats all i know unfortunatley.

Xande over Jacare IMO. Both are a level above Maia.

Xande is better than all of them right now, then Jacare followed by Maia. Jacare is 2-1 with Maia in grappling matches, he won one on points and one by submission, I think an armbar and Maia won one on points. Im not sure who is better Filho or Palahares, I assume Filho but they both have similar styles. Both are pretty similar to Arona.

Wow there are some good BJJ practitioners at MW, besides those there was Almedia and Kampmann and still Leities, Lutter, Horn, Nate, Lister, A Silva, Grove, Dan Miller (im probably forgetting a few) who have good ground games as well.

MW is probably the weakest division in MMA but it seems like its a prime weight class for grapplers.

I think HW is the weakest division in MMA. I suppose it depends on what you mean when you say weak.

If its a shortage of top quality fighters, then i think that surely has to go to HW. Alot of talented guys in MW.

I think there are more top fighters at HW than MW.

At MW there is Silva, Hendo and possibly Belfort.

At HW there is Fedor, Lesner, Carwin, Mir, Velasquez, Nog, Barnett, JDS and a few others.

Have to agree with Chelsea,the MW division is the weakest division in MMA.

Well that because there is a huge weight range at HW 206 pounds-265 pounds. Carwin may seem like a talented fighter who can cause anyone alot of trouble.

But in reality Sonnen has much better wrestling backround than him. (Division 1 champ, Olympic alternative etc...)


If you could shrink down Rogers to 185 and let him fight other 185 his own size he would never get anywhere near top 10. Hypothetical situation i know....

Yeah MW is the weakest. There are more than three top fighters though. JDS also doesn't deserve mention on a list with those HW's. MW prob has more depth than HW but HW has more quality.

And Jacare, I forgot about him but besides that right now I don't think so. I think Filho would be as well if he sorts his shit out. Mayhem as well just because he is Mayhem.

JDS deserves to be there based on his record which is more impressive than say Velasquez.

As for Carwin and Sonnen, its true that Sonnen has better wrestling but Carwin has good BJJ as well and a better standup fighter.

Rogers is a decent fighter, I don't think he will be top 10 for soon.
