Shane McMahon (WWE) Meets with Zuffa Empty Shane McMahon (WWE) Meets with Zuffa

    Post  redmeanie77 Tue Nov 17, 2009 6:12 pm

It has been confirmed today that WWE Executive Vice President of Global Media, Shane McMahon met with a number of high ranking officials over at Zuffa’s headquarters a week ago, possibly to discuss him moving into the world of MMA.

When the Wrestling Observer questioned UFC President, Dana White about the meeting he declined to comment.

Shane, who will be leaving his post in the WWE as of January 1st, is known to be interested in getting involved with the mixed martial arts world and with Dana last month admitting they would consider selling 10% of the promotion off to the right investor it could mean that we see a McMahon step into the octagon sometime soon.

Right i will start off by saying i know F'all about WWE and the role played Shane Mcmahon plays in the company, however reading from others people comment on MMA websites, Shanemac is adept at international promotions and has a foothold in some tough markets. The Zuffa could offer him a small piece for major $$$$ and he in turn would use his pull to get the UFC in markets they may have a difficult time getting into on their own. A win win scenario.

The WWE has strong footholds in alot of countries already and what better man to help extend that and to further expand that current foothold for the UFC, none other than the top man currently doing it in the WWE, especially since he wants to join by the looks, from what I have read he seems burnt out in the WWE environment. But what better man to have helping the UFC gain a stronger foothold in the international scene? Win win?

Apparently he is head of marketing and promoting for WWE, and is one of main people responsible for wwe being so big in many countries. Or so they say....

I havent got a clue either, put people elsewhere seem to think him joining the UFC now will help them get bigger on international market

Dana White's business model is the WWE. It's all about ratings and money as opposed to seeing the best fight the best. Shane McMahon knows how to work the ratings.

Can't get excited about it purely because I don't honestly care if the UFC becomes big in other countries or not. All the best fighters around the world already know the UFC (whether they sign or not is another matter), and they already have events in the UK where I live, so the rest of the world is totally irrelevant as far as I'm concerned.

Actually, thinking about it, a raised profile in other countries (e.g. Germania, Aus) means fewer events here, so I'm actually opposed to it. Add to that my doubts that McMahon will succeed for the UFC where Donald Trump himself failed for Affliction.

Donlad Trump is an idiot though. People think he's some great business guy because of The Apprentice show, but he's bankrupted his casinos in the past and had his own failed American Football league in the USFL.

Trump isnothing more then PR fluff these days.

Shane McMahon reportedly revolutionised the WWE's website and at the time it was cutting edge compared to other corperate sites out there, and spearheaded its media content such as on demand on DVD for example.

He's helped break into international markets regarding live shows and tv deals, and the UFC plans on putting on about 3 shows a month next year which means more fighters would have to be signed, and it wouldn't necessarily mean UK would get any less shows.

He also has a ton of contacts in new york which would be beneficial to getting MMA legalised there, and a UFC event held there. Once NY is taken, the rest of the states (and mabe even Canadian provinces) will likely follow suit.

Forget the on camera pro wrestling drama crap. Shane McMahon would be a big asset behind the scenes for the UFC, or any MMA promotion.

Nice one KJ, good points, my post was kind of tongue in cheek though really....

How's it going with your quest to be an MMA journo? I seem to remember you saying that was your goal when you came to 606 before.

No more slagging off the Donald though, anyone who builds a gold tower to live in and nails women of Melania's quality is ok with me!

Shane McMahon Could Buy Minority Stake In The UFC

If you’ve ever watched pro wrestling, you know who Shane McMahon is. If you haven’t, he’s the son of the WWE’s owner, Vince McMahon. Shane recently left the sport of pro wrestling after growing up in it, and now may have a chance to buy a stake in the UFC.
It was Shane who lobbied for his father to buy Pride before Zuffa and the UFC eventually took over. Apparently the deal was dead despite the McMahons' having enough money to purchase the organization due to Vince McMahon's lack of interest in MMA. Now Shane might have a chance to buy into the world’s largest MMA promotion on his own.

According to our friends over at Heavy.com, Shane recently cashed out $50 of his $80 million dollars in WWE stock, which would be the money he would use to get a piece of the UFC. UFC President Dana White has always said that he’d be willing to let somebody buy into a minority stake of his now billion dollar empire, and McMahon makes sense.

White wants someone who’s willing to sit on the sidelines, which is something Shane has done for years in the WWE, but that doesn’t mean the UFC wouldn’t be able to use the prodigal son. McMahon is known as the WWE’s mastermind behind securing large international business deals and that’s something that the UFC has been trying to do over the course of the last two years. Everything that the UFC wants internationally, Shane McMahon has already accomplished.

During the UFC Fight Club last week in Las Vegas, UFC President Dana White again declined to discuss in detail the meeting he recently had with McMahon, simply noting that he was a good friend and "you never know."
