Wrestling Axed From Olympics

I was reading about how wrestling has been removed from the Olympics.

Without the Olympics as a goal for these collegiate wrestlers, do you think we will see an influx of young wrestlers in MMA? Could you imagine the UFC holding recruitment drives for these athletes?

Because when I look at it, most of the large US college sports have a career path eg. NCAA basketball to the NBA but wrestling doesn't have this (pro-wrestling perhaps??) and with the pinnacle of the sport taken away, I could very well see these athletes cashing in on their skills as soon as they can.

urgh, horrible decision. Its akin to dropping running IMO, one of the original and core olympic sports. In fact it's one of the first things that comes to mind when you think about the olympics.

Have you heard whats going to replace it? Sport-climbing, Wakeboarding, Baseball/Softball or some other rubbish sports. The decision to drop it was made partly based on viewing figures and ticket sales which is hardly in the olympic spirit.

I agree - it is one of the staples of the Games (even though I don't watch or like it)

I know that 7's rugby has been included (absolute fucking joke!!) and I heard wakeboarding might be there too....

It's an absolute joke removing a core sport from The Games especially since they will be adding Golf, yes Golf from 2020. The games use to be about honor and prestige now It's just a purely money driven event.

IMO there is no need for Football, Rugby or Golf to be in the games never mind guff like wake boarding, BMX and Beach Volleyball (keeping It to Women's Beach Volleyball would be acceptable though ) It's bloody ridiculous for them to vote Wrestling off .

Absolutely disgusted by the news that Wrestling has been removed though. Football, Tennis and Golf all need to be fucked off. They're not Olympic sports. Disgusting to think that the likes of McIlroy and Mickelson will be invited to play in the Olympic yet people who've dedicated 20 plus years of their lives to an amateur sport won't be allowed to fulfill the highest ambition in their sport, a truly historic sport, by competing in the Olympics.
