Dan Severn gets a title shot

Couple things you need to know about this Elite1 MMA promotion that will reportedly give ancient old man Dan Severn a chance to win its heavyweight title this Saturday night at a casino in Moncton, New Brunswick (that’s in Canada): First, current champ Scott Fraser is just 3-1 and two of those wins come over the same guy – an apparent light heavyweight named Dan Fowler, who is 2-3 overall but was a respectable 2-1 the first time he and Fraser fought. The other guy Fraser beat? One Jeff “Viking” Lundburg, who is currently 1-7 and riding a four-fight losing streak. Don’t tell Justin Wren about this, you guys. For the record, that gives Severn (listed at 96-16-7, by Sherdog) an experience edge of 115 fights over Fraser.

The second thing you need to know about Elite1 MMA? A cool $40 (Canadian) will get you in the door, so if you live anywhere in the greater Northumberland Straight-area, you might as well check it out. Severn, who’s been averaging a half-dozen fights per year since 1994, is in the midst of a seven fight win-streak and has won 18-of-his-last-20, all over no-name dudes at smaller shows. His last six bouts were all fought under the King of the Cage banner, so they probably weren’t even fixed. Probably.

Fun fact: According to the Dog’s fight finder, in 119 fights Severn has only been knocked out once. Top that, Couture.

how can anyone not be a fan of the beast, the guy just loves to fight! Even though he's 74 years old now he can still challenge for a belt - legend!

Severn won the title! Arm triangle in the 2nd!!! What an absolute Legend... does he diserve on the JMO list after a can crushing Run Aleks E. Would b proud out!

Pretty amazing Severn is still going and winning slightly off subject but I was surprised Riggs got stopped over the weekend.

Cal Worsham is his next opponent... wasn't he also fighting in the UFC in the 1930s when Dan was top dog?

Dan Severn is a good opponent for Hershal walker id say. SF could easily afford his wages! Fightmatrix had his 126 ranked before his title win, Id say top 100 now because there is no one decent in that 26 places above him Apart from Irvcan who got a NC in his last one thanks to a crazy Shammy refing call.

Anyway Walker isnt top 100, Severn Is. Theyernt far apart in age, Severn is a UFC HOFer and a former UFC champ and holds some wee title now!

He is more credible than previous opposition rankings wise as well so Id love to see it just to get Severn some exposure before he retired. His Subs arent bad for an guy who has been around from the dawn of time and he cannot be KO'd by mortal men, Id back him to win!

Any Ideas who SF will get for Walker, Id really like to think Frye was an option.

Ken would either
a) throw the fight
b) decide to try and box, and get knocked out
c) snap Herschall's little ankle and show him what a real MMA fighter is made of!!!
