Is Edgar's style the future for the sport?

The guy is 5'6, 158 lbs and he's owned the p4p number one BJ Penn. He is in and out, side to side, mixing takedown's with strikes, but never really engaging toe to toe.... almost like 135lb WEC champ Dominik Cruz.. except Frankie has the better wrestling background.

    In short, no.

Can you imagine, for example, Jonny Bones Jones doing this?

    Silly question.

Oh, and BJ was not P4P number one...

The hit and move style has a lot going for it though. You can't beat what you can't hit. Edgar's conditioning embaressed Penn.

It was a genuine question. Very few fighters could have fight at the pace Edgar did for five rounds, Penn simply couldn't cope.

No, a fair few fighters could have pulled that off.

Penn was non-existent in that fight, its not hard to stick and move and get the occasional take down without gassing. Sure, fighters like Kimbo, Tank and the like would have gassed, but any fighter in shape wouldn't have.

Florian, Huerta, Guida, Sanchez to name but a few that could keep that pace.

Enough people tipped Sanchez to outwork Penn and we all know what happened there.

Yeah, he got rocked in the first round and never recovered. That was the best BJ ever, and if that version of Penn showed up against Frankie then Frankie would have really had his work cut out.

Sanchez was always going to stand toe to toe.

I can only assume you like the style as your hero, Mr Bitchping, used a similar style against Leben. Not so much stick and move, as slap and run away. But no, it's not the future of the sport. Top end wrestlers will dominate sprinters.

Oh, and Penn is not P4P number 1.

It's a style Bisping has used with some success.

Too many MMA strikers are flat footed and stationery. For example, I'd say Rampage's days are numbered. He couldn't cope with Rashad's speed and Machida's movement will pick him apart.

Rampage has been "wolf-laired". They have made him such a poor fighter. He needs to go back to his Pride era brawling and power-bombing days.

Bisping used a very poor version of it ONCE. He ran away from Chris Leben. If he beats the sexy one, he'll most likely get Leben again. He won't run away this time, Leben seems to have learned how to cut off angles.

That said, the sexy one is a better grappler and just as good a striker as the cunt, with far more power than Michael "ZERO KO'S" Bitchping. Akiyama to beat the cunt with ease.

Yep, until he fought top opposition, namely Hendo.

That's true, circling towards Hendo's power side wasn't the smartest idea.

Bisping has fought 3 top fighters, Rashad, Hendo and Wandi, he was beaten by all of them, and two of them, Rashad and Wandi, were really poor on the night and still beat him.
