Thought it was about time I made a thread about this. Very Happy

    ONE FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIP One

For those who haven't heard of ONE FC; its a brand new (deep pocketed) MMA promotion based out of Singapore. Branded as
"Champion vs Champion - Asia's greatest battle of champions"

The first event is being held on 3rd September in Singapore national indoor stadium (12,000 seater).

Some big names such as Cris Cyborg and Shinya Aoki have been linked to the promotion. The fighters currently signed to the huge roster are:

-6x Muay Thai World Champion, Anuwat Kaewsamrit (Thailand)
-Wushu and MCFC Champion, Eduard Folayang (Philippines)
-Sanda World Champion, Bao Li Gao (China)
-Spirit MC Champion, Kwang Hee Lee (Korea)
-6x Muay Thai World Champion, Namsaknoi Yudthagarngamtorn (Thailand)
-Total Combat FC Champion, Eddie Ng (Hong Kong)
-Malaysia Champion and XFC Champion, Adam Kayoom (Malaysia)
-Sanda World Champion, Zhao Zhi Long (China)
-BJJ World Champion, Zorobabel Moreira (Brazil/Singapore)
-URCC FC Champion, Kevin Bellingon (Philippines)
-WBA Boxing World Champion, Yodsanan Sityodtong (Thailand)
-Muay Thai World Champion and K1 Veteran, Ole Laursen (Philippines)
-Risingon FC Champion, Soo Chul Kim (Korea)
-2x MCFC Champion, Mitch Chilson (USA/Singapore)
-BJJ World Champion and MCFC Champion, Leandro Issa (Brazil/Singapore)
-URCC FC Champion, Eric Kelly (Philippines)
-5x Muay Thai World Champion Orono Wor Petchpun (Thailand)
-Sanda World Champion, Ba Teer (China)
-Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Champion, Gregor Gracie (Brazil)
-Muay Thai World Champion, Yoddecha Sityodtong (Thailand)
-Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Champion, Rolles Gracie (Brazil)
-Afghanistan Champion and MCFC Champion, Malik Arash Malawyi (Afghanistan)
-Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Champion, Igor Gracie (Brazil)
    cheers

    - The brand will be aired on ESPN STAR throughout Asia in some 500 million homes.

    - The organization has also planned a reality series entitled, ONELife. The other two events are the ONE National Qualifier Series and of course, One Fighting Championship.

    - The organization plans to bring their fights into every major city in Asia, something that no one has done before.

    - Bas Rutten is commentating

    - They will be using unified rules

    - OneFC is very well funded. Their pockets are deep. They are believed to be funded by a syndicate of businessmen from the Middle East.

    - The owner's name is Victor Cui. He worked for ESPN Star Sports for quite some time and more or less single handedly set up Martial Combat. His contacts in the sports broadcasting world run deep, and the respect for Mr. Cui runs high. With this, the sponsors he has lined up and the financial muscle behind him is rather impressive. His experience organizing non-MMA events with very much success is great. Heard of the X-Games? He has been involved in such.

    - OneFC is looking to sign top fighters from Asia. Amongst these top fighters, One Fighting Championship will be featuring fighters from the highly touted Evolve Mixed Martial Arts in Singapore. Evolve MMA is a cutting edge facility, one of the best in the world. It is run by Chatri Sityodtong.

    - The organizers believe JMMA shows are aimed only at the Japanese market. This creates a huge gap in the Asian market.

    - according to Middleasy "Expect a lot of your favorite Japanese fighters to make the transition to this new organization. "

they are having a press conference in about 4 hours. i will update this thread with the announcements once i get over the fact that orono wor petchpun, anuwat and namsaknoi will be fighting mma. Very Happy

i was hoping they were going to announce some fights but they didnt, here is the press release

    http://www.onefc.com/ONEFC-press-release.pdf

ONE Fighting Championship™ currently remains in confidential discussions with many of the top Asian fighters in Asia and is
expected to make additional major announcements soon. It is the goal of ONE Fighting Championship to work with all the top
Asian MMA event organizations, managers, and fighters in growing the sport of mixed martial arts in Asia.
As part of its broadcast plans, the ONE Fighting Championship™ will be shown on ESPN STAR SPORTS (ESS), Asia’s top
sports content provider, and MediaCorp Channel 5 (MC), Singapore's leading media company, across Asia. It is the largest
MMA media broadcast in Asian history. In addition, several other major Asian broadcasting partnerships will also be announced
    in the near future.
Victor Cui, CEO/Owner of ONE Fighting Championship, said, ”ONE Fighting Championship marks a significant inflection
point in the sport of mixed martial arts in Asia. By our first event on September 3, we will be in more than 500 million homes
across Asia and it is only the beginning. Asia has been the birthplace and home to martial arts for the last 5,000 years and ONE
Fighting Championship has a vision of bringing mixed martial arts to the 3.9 billion people living in Asia. I am excited by the
dominant leadership position of ONE Fighting Championship in Asia and the future of mixed martial arts in this region of the
world. MMA is the fastest growing sport on the planet. We intend to showcase some of the most adrenaline-filled, exciting
fights in Asia, featuring the best Asian fighters.”

    sort of..but not really.

like they said the japanese shows are really only aimed at the japanese. these guys plan to hold shows all over asia.
you might not recognise most of the names but guys like Folyang is the south east asian wushu champion and thats a pretty big deal i think, not to mention guys like namsaknoi who are like gods in thailand....and what seems like the entire younger generation of Gracies.

Ok this looks quite interesting. Out of the roster mentioned, I only recognize the Muay Thai champions and the Gracie's but it looks like a well rounded mix of fighters. It looks like an exciting new promotion and covering all of Asia's talent instead of just Japan's is a good idea. I always wanted to see more of Thailand's Thai fighters in MMA.

I wonder if they would sign someone like Coleman for there first event to really attract the old pride fans. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw old Bob Sapp there in the future.

Good news and I am genuinely exited about this.

    the key things are
    a) they are deep pocketed and very ambitious
    b) in asia ~ particularly south east asia MMA is growing fast
    c) they are reaching a HUGE audience

i dont know who will be fighting on the first show.
If they get big names its most likely to Aoki who lives and trains in Singapore (many fighters from the same gym are already listed), and Cris Cyborg whos manager said she is in negotiations to fight in singapore (which can only mean this).

not sure coleman and sapp are the type of fighters that are going to fight there, they seem more keen to cultivate the local talents and top international fighter, in order to draw the NEW mma audience - rather than old pride fans. (dont think pride/k1 was/is popular in asia outside japan and korea, for example the fighters listed are more popular in thailand than Buakaw.)

think i'll probably pick up tickets Very Happy

no idea about getting a UK tv deal, its clearly not the target market. havent seen any asian MMA on UK TV since years and years ago when they showed some (even older) japanese events on eurosport.

The champion vs champion is something I'd really like to see. Is it going to be a 1 day tournament kind of thing? It's almost like every fighter represents his martial art. For a first show, it sounds like a great idea.

Aoki would be a big signing for them, he'd be there biggest name.

Slightly surprised it's in a cage. I'm already psyched for this!

Remember when Ricardo Mayorga was meant to take a fight in MMA? I wonder if he'd consider doing this.

Singapore is a really interesting place. It's very western, English is spoken by most fluently in the city (they have Singapore produced TV shows in English language).

But, last I heard (when I was there in 2002) was they take drugs very seriously. If you're caught with illegal drugs on you, it's the death penalty. So I don't think it's going to be a steroid haven like many think it might be.

I've heard that about the drug scene! Good way of detering it!

Just read though this whole topic seems very interesting and exciting, in a time where UFC rules all. Interested to see that a lot of the fighters are specialists in one code, it will be like going back in time! Really hope this kicks off and produces some good talent from the far east, as the west is dominating the sport at the moment!

ONE FC will be operating under pride rules but in a cage What a Face

This is the three year schedule for live events which was announced:

Year 1: Singapore, Macau, Seoul, Jakarta, Shanghai, Bangkok

Year 2: Singapore, Macau, Seoul, Jakarta, Shanghai, Bangkok, Manila, Jakarta, KL

Year 3: Singapore, Macau, Seoul, Jakarta, Shanghai, Bangkok, Manila, Jakarta, KL, Mumbai, Shanghai

    affraid

    MAIN CARD:

Eduard Folayang (Philippines) vs. Ole Laursen (Denmark / Philippines) - 155 lbs

Eduard Folayang--largely considered the best Filipino fighter living in the Philippines will be putting his 9-1 professional record against K-1 Max legend Ole Laursen. After a submission loss to Caol Uno and a decision loss to Genki Sudo in 2006--Ole has won 5 in a row, including an impressive win against top regarded Brazilian Edu Pachu.

Yoshiyuki Yoshida (Japan) vs. Phil Baroni (USA) - 175 lbs catchweight

Baroni is going to be stepping into the cage against 5x UFC veteran Yoshiyuki Yoshida of Japan. (The same Yoshida who choked out War Machine)

Mitch Chilson (Singapore/USA) vs. Eric Kelly (Philippines) - 145 lbs

Gregor Gracie (Brazil) vs. Wang Sai (China) - 170 lbs

Gregor Gracie of Team Renzo will be facing Wang Sai of China. Wang Sai is a member of the China Top Team--which currently trains the only Chinese fighter signed to UFC contract--Tiequan Zhang.

Andy Wang (China) vs. Zorobabel Moreira (Brazil / Singapore):- 155 lbs
TUF and UFC vet Andy Wang will be facing former World Champion BJJ player Zoro Moreira.

    UNDERCARD:

Radeem Rahman (Singapore) vs. Susovan Ghosh (India) - 125 lbs

Soo Chul Kim (Korea) vs. Leandro Issa (Brazil / Singapore) - 135 lbs

Vuyisile Colossa (South Africa) vs. Wang Ya Gi (China) - 155 lbs[/b]
Wang is a Sanda World Champion, while Colossa is a former Muay Thai champion. On most stylistic match ups like this, Sanda usually has an advantage cause they have the wrestling base to take opponents down when they need to. This specific match up will most likely be an exception though. Wang is unlikely to take this to the ground, and even if he does, Colossa has a rapidly improving ground game to compliment his top notch striking. Expect this to be an entertaining stand up battle with Colossa getting the better on the exchanges.

Daniel Mashamaite (South Africa) vs. Yodsanan Sityodtong (Thailand) - 135 lbs
    Very Happy
World Boxing Champion Yodsanan Sityodtong will be making his MMA debut against former Muay Thai champion Daniel Mashamaite of South Africa.

Eddie Ng (Hong Kong) vs. Wu Chengjie (China) - 160 lbs catchweight

Ah ok cool mate! should have checked the date! Stomps and Knees in a cage! Brutal stuff im sure it will be a fun event to go to

I dont mind about the ring or scoring criteria, ill just be glad to see some getting a shoeing on the ground! Laughing

Its funny with them using a cage and Dream using 3X5 rounds I wonder if sooner or later everyone will adopt the unified rules. Im hoping not but if everyone uses one ruleset down the line I really hope there something done to deal with the stalling we see in the Unified rules right now.

glad to see Eddie Ng win, i briefly talked to him after the event - he should have gotten the KO bonus that went to Rahman.

He represents Hong Kong in ONE FC but really he is from England, because its revolving around asian MMA, something like Wang representing Taiwan when he is american.
