    Rampage-Machida? Empty Rampage-Machida?

    Post  efils_god Wed Jul 21, 2010 8:47 am

It seems that this fight might be on after all, despite the claims of Rampage ducking him previously. Dana White has already 'teased' that they may fight, and now from Rampage's twitter:

almost ready 2 sign the bout agreement! i would tell yall who im gonna get down with, but i cant spell his name....hahaha

So from this can we deduce it's likely to be Machida? Either that of Krysztof Szozynski?!

If it is Machida, how do you have this fight going? It's a real tough one to call but i'll have to go for Machida to bounce back, via TKO at some pointin the later rounds.

    What do you all think?

Just thought, it can't be Nog. He's signed to fight Bader at 119.

    Maybe it is Machida!

Seems it will be Machida - should be a great fight!

"A Light Heavyweight battle between former UFC Light Heavyweight champions, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Lyoto Machida is reportedly set to go down on November 20.

According to MMAJunkie.com sources close to the organization have said that Rampage has verbally agreed to face Lyoto Machida, with bout agreements to be signed shortly.

Jackson posted the following on his Twitter Page:

"Almost ready to sign the bout agreement, I would tell ya'll who I'm gonna get down with, but I can't spell his name. Hahaha."

A location for the November 20 event has yet to be determined, and UFC officials are considering a handful of different venues.

Jackson is coming off a loss to his rival, Rashad Evans at UFC 114 in May. Prior to that "Rampage" had picked up victories over the likes of Keith Jardine and a vicious knockout over Wanderlei Silva.

Machida is also coming off a huge loss, a loss that saw him lose the Light Heavyweight champion to Mauricio "Shogun" Rua at UFC 113 in May. Machida was knocked out in the first round of the fight and suffered his first loss of his career.

The winner of this potential bout could be next in line to fight the winner of the "Shogun" Rua/Rashad Evans Light Heavyweight title fight. "

Machida will destroy him. This fight might be Dana's way of punishing Rampage.

I'd reckon Machida's movement will be too much for Rampage.

Don't think its as clear cut as some of you are making out. We've seen Machida doesn't like getting hit and Rampage has showed time and time again that he can take a bloody good shot to the chin. I do think Machida will win, most likely a UD, but i wouldn't rule Rampage out completely.

Machida has a great chin. Took Shogun's best shot in the first fight, got caught on the temple in the second.

Rampage will gas in the second and Machida will finish him in the 3rd.

Bader vs Nog winner still needs one more to deserve a shot. Machida deserves one already.

Im not a Machida fan but if he beats Rampage he is clear number 1 contender, Wins over Shogun/Rampage/Evans says a rubbermatch is fair enough to ask for.

Lil Nog vs Bader winner can fight either Couture/Forrest/Franklin as their fight before a title shot.

If Rampage beats Machida and looked good doing that im sure UFC would be able to Hype a Shogun vs Rampage fight because you'd imagine it would be a big PPV event.

Ben both of your fight outcomes leave the UFC hyping fight rematches and we all know how much they love a good story.

Either way, I don't see Rampage beating Machida. I think he's too plodding and too flat footed to keep up with Machida's movement. I know he'd been busy making movies but Rampage looked slow against Rashad and I think Machida has even better movement than Sugar. Machida won't get caught by Rampage's dirty boxing and he'll end up winning a unanimous decision or TKOing Rampage if Machida manages to hit Jackson with some substantial. Basically, I don't think the Dragon can risk being caught too close to Quinton as he does still hit really hard.

Finally, there are a number of fighters in the light heavy weight division with surnames that are ridiculously more complicated surnames than Machida, it really does make you wonder how much Jackson plays up to his image sometimes.

I agree machida is worthy of the next shot, however that will be 3 out of the last 4 fights for each of them against each over, the rubber match will happen sooner or later.

I would just prefer machida to have a couple more fights to build his confidence back up and let some of the up and comers have a shot.

Jones is growing into a heavyweight, they cant keep him back to long as he will outgrow the division.

If Shogun remains as champion for the next 3 or 4 fights he should be regarded as p4p number 1 IMO - he has never ducked anyone and you could argue without the bad injuries he has he would be unbeaten.

Babalu beat him before any injuries and Machida beat him when he was at 100%.

Coleman and Forrest losses can go down to injuries. Not the other two.

Only legit decisive loss on his record is the Babalu one which was very early in his career.

I completely forgot about the Babalu fight, still would rank Shogun right up there on any list, UFC LH division is great at the moment.

Machida beat him, and after he beats Rampage and gets his deserved rematch for the title he'll have his belt back.
