The problem is, if a round is so close so as to be basically a draw, a judge still feels obliged to give the round to one of the fighters, effectively at random. That's how Machida 'lost' the fight.

You could retroactively make a case for Machida edging the first two rounds, but they were so close that they fell well within a reasonable margin of error for a human judge sitting at a fixed point cageside.

Has anyone ever mentioned how unfit for purpose the judging in MMA is? Someone ought to start a thread on a forum or something about that shit.
