"Diaz can definitely be a competitor at 155 lbs. He's had some issues in starting out slow in fights, and it led to a number of decision losses prior to his move up to the welterweight division in the first place.  That said, he was very competitive in all of those fights, and his final lightweight fight was a fairly boring fight with Gray Maynard in which he dropped the decision but was in the fight the entire way." quote taken from mma torch.
Although i do agree that his drop down to 155 is probably where diaz is at his best, didnt he originally move to 175 cos he was struggling to make weight. The article also states that diaz thinks he can make a title run at lightweight, personally im not sure that it is likely but if he does have a shot it is at 155 amongst fighters of a similar size and strength. But it comes down to if he can make weight without it affecting his performances.

Gray Maynard has destroyed everyone he has faced. Except Nate Diaz. Maynard is the number 1 LW in the UFC. If Diaz can give him a close fight at 155 then he can compete with anyone.

Nate is a far more competitive LW,than he is a WW.

He is around the top 10 at LW,who with the right match ups and wins could possibly earn him self a shot at the title at some stage.
At WW he will never be a contender.

The two other guys that I want to see drop back to LW are BJ and Diego, add those 3 and hopefully soon, the best strikeforce LW's,Melendez,JZ etc and you have one of the most exciting, deep divisions in the sport.
