Strikeforce: Diaz vs Daley Empty Strikeforce: Diaz vs Daley

Post  ChelseaQuinsfan Tue Apr 05, 2011 1:16 am

I was just wondering what people thoughts are heading into the event. This looks like a potentially very exciting event with two excellent main events. The main event is between two of the best 3 WWs outside the UFC and two historically very exciting fighters.

While I'm not necessarily a fan of either guys personality, I do enjoy watching both Diaz and Daley fight. When this fight was first rumored, I thought this should be a pretty straight forward win for Diaz but now, I'm not sure. On the feet, I think Daley has the advantage, in terms of technique and power although Diaz has some very good boxing skills. I think for Diaz to win, he needs to get the fight to the ground. His take downs did not look good at all against Noons, but on the other hand take down defense is Daley's biggest weakness. His ground game has improved a lot over the years, but I still think if goes there, he'll end up tapping.

For me, I think Diaz will fight smart and try and tire Daley out. I think for the first couple of round he won't mind staying on the feet and let Daley chase him for a while. When it hits the third or fourth round, I reckon Diaz will be able to take Daley down and send him to sleep.

The co main event is the rematch Melendez and Crusher. I'm a big fan of Melendez but I do think he has a big advantage in this fight. Crusher showed very impressive wrestling against Thompson but I don't think he'll have the same advantages against Melendez. I think Melendez has better stand up, better BJJ and better wrestling. This fight could be fireworks and I do think it will go all 5 rounds. Melendez by UD.

The other two fights should also be fun. Mousassi fights for the first time this year and returns to SF for the first time after his loss to King Mo. Keith Jardine is a tough experienced fighter, but a slight step down from Mousassi's original opponent Kyle. Jardine has stopped the rot by winning his last two fights, but I think he's outclassed here. Mousassi is better everywhere aside from wrestling. If Jardine has any chance to win, he needs to turn the fight to a wrestling match, and even then Mousassi's judo is very good. I think Mousassi will outclass him on the feet and stop him in the 2nd or 3rd round.

And finally Aoki returns for the first time since his embarrassing loss at the New year show. I find this a bizarre fight to make, fancy pants is coming off a loss for the first time in his career. Surely Healy would have made more sense or is he injured? Either way this should be an exciting fight. Aoki needs to make this a grappling contest like Healy did and he'll win easily and quickly. Aoki's standup and chin though always give him a problem in fights. I think if Aoki loses, he might retire.

Shame Takaya is only on the prelims and lets all hope Daley makes weight.

    Thoughts?

I think this is a relatively easy fight for Diaz. He can use his reach to keep the distance and wear Daley down. Then take him down where he'll sub him easily.

A real great card a shame Takaya is on the prelims I love watching Takaya fight

The main event I expect Diaz to win especially If this goes past 2 Rounds I feel Semtex's best chance of winning is to end It Early I don't see him keeping up with Diaz's pace.

The undercard is really good Crusher vs Melendez shouls be close again both are coming off impressive wins I just wonder If Melendez not fighting for a year could be a deciding factor.

I expect Mousasi to make quick work of Jardine as for Beerbohm vs Aoki I'm really intrigued to see how the fight pans out It could be a disappointing stand up fight ala Shaolin vs Aoki or a grappling clinic.

got to agree with cowboy from hell - daley needs to get in and win this early. Its the only likely chance he has of winning. His stand up is obviously good but diaz is too well rounded. However, Diaz likes to embarass his openents as he has shown in the past, he likes to out punch boxers and out grapple wrestlers. It is this cocky attitude that could be Diaz's undoing. If he stands and trades with Daley, I think that Daleys stand up will prove a step too far for Diaz. But if Diaz plays safe, takes Daley down and sits on him for a couple of rounds, I see a 3/4th round stoppage for Diaz.

Both Shields and Koscheck (two of the best wrestlers, if not THE best in the WW division) had a hard time taking him down and keeping him down.

    Daley's striking = Overrated
    Diaz's Striking = Underrated

Daley isnt hard to hit, people forget this but he gets tagged left right and centre, he has probabally top 2 or 2 striking offence in the devision but defensivley he is poor.

Diaz flattened Smith too, Beat Lawler down (and Lawler KO'd Manhoef dont forget) Diaz doenst get the credit he is due for his striking and while he isnt on par with Daley his grappling is so many levels above Daleys.

Diaz doesnt need to be able to hold Daley down, he just needs to get him onto the ground and sink in a sub which I think he will

On what planet is Nick Diaz's chin below average??? Potentially the most idiotic thing I've read here since "Michael Bisping is the biggest win of Dan Henderson's career".

Diaz is a better striker than Daley and a much better grappler.

Koscheck took Daley down at will and beat him easily. Shields got him down, kept him down and tapped him with ease.

It doesn't matter if Daley stops 10 takedowns in a row and Diaz only manages to get him down once. Once Diaz gets him down it's all over.

Have to agree with Ben and Anfield here. As much as I dislike Diaz, his stand up is well underated. Can see it being a tough night for Daley. I see Diaz dictating the fight, Mixing it with Daley, but, knowing that he can take this fight to the floor, pretty much at will.

Looking forward to the Aoki fight, his performance in the New Year was possibly the most bizare I've ever seen. I've always been a fan of his sub game, but I fear that I've let my heart rule my head in the predictions league. What's everyones thoughts on his fight?

    Daleys' TDD isn't necessarily relevant.

If Diaz so much as pulls guard it's over.

Diaz get's dropped in almost all of his fights.

Granted all he may need is one takedown to finish the fight but Daley is a strong customer and i'm backing him to turn Diaz's lights out before that happens.

I'm rooting for Daley in this fight, not really that big a fan of him but I just hate Nick Diaz, there is no denying Diaz's talents though, the claims that he has a below average chin are bizarre, I think only being knocked out once in a 30 fight professional career, in which was Diaz's fifth professional fight tells the story of his chin, especially when you look at some of the names he has been known to stand and trade with.

As Anfield rightfully said, Daley could stop 10 takedown attempts and Diaz only get Daley down once and Daley would be in trouble, but i'm sure Daley has been well prepared for this fight by Team Rough House, who have some good BJJ practitioners at hand, and as Axe said earlier, Daley has been proven to be hard to keep down once gotten to the ground, so Diaz will have to try and act quick if he gets him down, much like he did against Cyborg.

As many have said earlier, the later this fight goes the more it favours Diaz, i'm starting to think about whether or not Daley might come out explosive, and that may be his downfall leaving himself open for a Diaz takedown, and even a Diaz counter, but if one of Daley's bombs hits then Diaz will be in trouble. I've put down a Daley 2nd round stoppage in the predictor, simply because like I said, I don't like Diaz, and I usually foolishly predict with my heart rather than my head, but I think there is a huge change that Diaz will get Daley down and sub Daley at some point in this fight.

"Diaz gets dropped in almost all his fights."

Really?? I can think of a handful of times he's been dropped. But he always gets back up almost straight away. Diaz has a great chin. Even Hendo gets dropped from time to time. Would you classify Hendo's chin as below average?

Diaz has a doesn't have a great chin at all, he just has a phenomenal recovery rate.

Hendo? No i wouldn't. He is dropped less than Diaz, and is certainly less hittable. Noons, Cyborg and especially Zaromskis all landed repeatedly on Diaz, with Daley it doesn't take repeated strikes to put you in danger, he has that sort of power.

IMO either Daley will KO Diaz or he will drop him, follow him to the ground and get subbed.
