Strikeforce: Diaz vs Daley – World Welterweight Championship
View Valley Casino Center, San Diego
Paul ‘Semtex’ Daley will step into the ring on April 9th as a man with something to prove. This British knock out specialist rose quickly through the ranks in his run with the UFC. As a trash talking fan favourite with genuine KO power, he moved into title contention and secured a number 1 contenders fight against the equally abrasive Josh Koscheck. Heading in Daley was considered by many as the welterweight with the striking skills to truly test Georges St Pierre. Within a minute of the bout finishing, Daley’s UFC career was finished after a controversial punch thrown after the bell. Dana White quickly moved to remove Daley from the UFC roster with a promise he would never return.
Daley set about rebuilding his career on the independent scene with a run of convincing victories which saw him picked up by Strikeforce. After the rescheduling of the Strikeforce World Heavyweight Grand Prix, Strikeforce repaid the fans by scheduling a stacked card headlined by two of the sport’s most controversial characters – Nick Diaz and Paul Daley. But the story didn’t end there, with the surprise purchase of Strikeforce by Zuffa, parent company of the UFC. Daley found himself not only fighting for a major world title but back working for the company he left unceremoniously only 11 months previously.
So this Saturday, April 9th, Daley has something to prove and he knows exactly what he needs to do;
"It's no secret that I'm not a jiu-jitsu wizard, and I hate wrestlers that are just going to lay-and-pray, so my offense is to knock people out, and I've been very successful doing it."
This exciting event is exclusively available on Primetime in the UK. In addition to the main event we also get to see Gilbert Melendez defend his World Lightweight belt against Tatsuya Kawajiri, Gegard Mousasi face off again ‘The Dean of Mean’ Keith Jardine and Shinya Aoki fight Lyle Beerbohm.
