Rashad Evans Hints That He Would Fight Jon Jones Empty Rashad Evans Hints That He Would Fight Jon Jones

Post  Sheldan Sun Mar 06, 2011 12:19 am

Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans recently appeared on ESPN 2 and ESPN.com's MMA Live where he discussed with host Jon Anik the possibility of having to fight training partner and friend Jon "Bones" Jones should Jones defeat current champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua at UFC 128:

Evans: "Jones expressed last night in an interview that he would fight me for the title you know and so I guess if..."

Anik: "I guess you gotta fight him."

    Evans: "I mean, I mean I'm a punk so..."

Evans is currently not set to face anyone since suffering his knee injury. There was a brief rumour about a rematch with Quinton "Rampage" Jackson but that fight was rejected by UFC President Dana White.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's about time that Rashad manned up, the fact he decided to sit out on the sidelines for a year rather than fight put him down in my estimations, he got what he deserved when he got injured. I'm still not sure if he would actually fight Jones. With Jackson's camp being like it is where everybody seems to refuse to fight each other then it won't suprise me if Rashad actually refuses to fight Jones. He did say that he doesn't want to go down to 185, he would be too small at Heavyweight and he pretty much said that Dana hates him at the moment, so the only option for him really is to stay at Light Heavyweight. This all does lie on whether or not Jones beats Shogun in their match at UFC 128.

Was his last fight 114? Fuck me is he inactive. He needs to grow a pair of, as Bas would say, "cojones" and, as Rogan would say, "put all his balls in the wheelbarrow and take it".

A fight with Jones would be fun while it lasts but its been known for a while that to beat Jones, you don't need a wrestler, Bones would kill him IMO.

I'd like to see Rashad vs Forrest rematch, or even Rashad vs Franklin.

I think he'd have beaten a rusty Shogun and I think he was right to sit out and wait for his title shot. BUT I don't think he'll fight Jones and I think if Shogun beats Jones then he'll beat Evans off the back of it. If Jones beats Shogun I reckon Evans drops to 185.

It all depends on Shogun. If he comes in rusty and sluggish, Bones will beat him. If he comes in like he did in the Machida fights, he'll win.

I think Hashad knows he stuck in a hard place if Bones wins, i dont think he wants to cut down to 185lb and he would be very undersized at HW.

So he's got to fight Bones if he wants a title.

A bit of posturing. It won't happen. I'll take the 8 or 9 times they've both said it won't happen over these recent comments.

I noticed people talking about Rashad not wanting to fight a jackson team-mate and going to 185 and saying "oh well then he'd have to fight Nate". Nate is not a team-mate. He doesn't train at jackson's on a daily basis. He fights out of colorado. Jackson is his strategy coach but he does all his other work under his own BJJ instructor, his fitness coach and the guy who was GSP's assistant on TUF.

Wait, did you just refer to Nate Marquardt without calling him "The Grease" affraid

Side note: whoever built this website needs to go back to school, the code for the affraid is spelled affraid, which is obviously incorrect.......... Laughing Rolling Eyes

I fancy jones against shogun my gut telling me 2nd or 3rd round GNP or choke,
Don't get me wrong I love shogun

That been said there are a few question about jones that I'm not sure on yet
1, chin we have not seen him take many strikes certainly none of the calibre shogun possess
2, can he go 5 I'm not convinced his stamina is that good not sure why just a feeling
3, I like his confidence but he said last week he feels that he has already won the fight

Glad rushed has at least intamated that he would fight jones I'm not convinced he wants to
Rashad is not on danas Christmas card list that's for sure
