I didn't have much time for Brock at all when he first started in MMA,but I slowly started warming towards him,and now there's no doubt about it,I like him.
At first I thought he was a direspectful dickhead,I wasn't to keen on his celebrations after the Herring fight,but to be fair loads of fighters do worse and in hindsight,I can understand his excitement,since his debut went horribly wrong for him against Mir and the pressure to get the win over a legit top 15ish fighter,Herring must of been huge,going 0-2 in his first UFC fights would of been a disaster for him(I mean he's been on a 5 fight win streak,won the title and has defended it twice,all against top end competition and he still can't get any respect from some)then you had his terrible reaction after beating Mir,but lets face it Mir had really gotten under his skin and talked alot of shit about him(first mma related death and all that)not thats ,that is a legit excuse for it,but we could all see from it,how it obviously did effect him.
Since that Mir fight though,he has been very respectful to all of his opponents, not talked any shit pre fight or post fight and just got on with becoming a better fighter. His training regime is pretty intense so we cant say he's sitting on his reputation. And saying shit like he just doesnt want to prostitute himself to the media so that fans like him is refreshing to me considering the amount of fighters that blatantly chase that kinda publicity, Tito for example!
Plus,his over coming a career and possible life threatening illness and returning,winning and defending his belt against a tough top flight undefeated opponent in his comeback fight,i see that as a great accomplishment and a great story,so that helped win me over.
I like Cain also,I love watching him fight,he is probably the best overall skilled HW in the game,but personality wise he's a boring sod,(plus he has his fair share of haters also,especially after the Kongo fight,and all the shit about his Brown Pride Tattoo)
He can't in anyway sell a fight like Brock can without even trying,so for me,trying to claim that he is not good for the sport is ridicules,he trains hard,he respects the game,that's why he works so hard to improve himself and spends so much of his own money to make that possible.
The way he obviously lives his life,in a simple way,I would say he has made enough money in his time to retire and live out that kind of lifestyle with no problems,so the "he's only in it for the money" bit,I don't really buy into that,I honestly believe he's in it for the competition and the challenge and nothing else.
But for the most important reason,why he is the perfect champ out of all the UFC HW's,is he is the only one that can successfully and with ease,sell the sport to the masses.
He draws attention no matter what he does,good or bad,which is something you can't learn,you either have that effect on people or you don't.
Thats why no matter what he does or wins,there'll always be people out there that will hate on him,and the same if he loses a few,there's others that will constantly stand by him(like those deluded Cro-cop fans
)
On his skills,he might not be the best all around fighter in MMA,but he is still learning his craft and I think it would be daft to ignore how much his game has already improved a good amount in his short time in the game.
Plus he's already done pretty bloody well in the sport,with the raw skills he possesses.
