Sounds like an unlucky loss for Shamrock then.
UFC Hall of Famer Ken Shamrock lost to journeyman, Mike Bourke in South Africa. In the second round Shamrock dropped Bourke with a big right, but he injured his leg in a scramble causing the ref to stop the fight and declare Bourne the winner.

Re: New MMA Calendar
Unlucky for Shammy, V.Overeem is out of the Bigfoot fight, SF being the usual poor matchmakers they are matched Daniel Cormier with some can in Janurary insted of having him step in.
Fedor is hardly the type of guy to step in on short notice and Barnetts licence isnt through so I can only think of Sergei or SDR as a replacement.

That's not bad matchmaking at all. Cormier is not ready for such a huge step up in class.
Strikeforce's matchmaking is excellent.

Re: New MMA Calendar
Anfield you really dont think Cormier fighting on a challengers card against Devon Cole is a step backwards for the guy? SF Hw roster is superb and theres 3 lower teir guys who could step in to fight bigfoot on short notice. Cormier being in more or less fighting shape right now is the Ideal guy to step in.
Lavar fought in October winning in 2 mins and him and Bigfoot would be a clash of titans, an easy fight to sell. SDR has been calling out Arlovski and saying he wants a step up in competition. Bigfoot didnt dominate Arlovski so Its not a huge step up from that fight. Shane been out since July but looked great agaisnt Mahe.
Who you thinks going to step in or you think SF have that poor controll of the fighters we will see Bigfoot off the card or fighting a can? Sergei fought K-1 in October and looked in the best shape he has ever been in!

Re: New MMA Calendar
I think it's too short notice to get anyone decent. it's a great card anyway so it's not a big deal if Silva fights and destroys a can.
To take Cormier and expect him to prepare for someone that is arguably a top 10 HW in a week is just a disaster waiting to happen. Cormier needs to be brought along slowly so he avoids a Lesnar/Lashley type capitulation. Give him time. Give him fights.

Re: New MMA Calendar
Suppose its shite that its a weeks notice. This was a bad fight in the 1st place anyway but with More notice im sure Rogers or someone could have stepped in.
Hoper Cormier steps up in level after this next one, this fight doesnt really strike me as a step up in opposition at all. I really do think throwing him in with SDR or Lavar is the Idea and make one of them a name.
Hope Coker gets a few fights in 2011 set up

Re: New MMA Calendar
Sergei is fighting on the World GP final card...not as a reserve fight unfortunatley, but a superfight vs Jaideep Singh...which should be a really competitive fight.
that card is on the 11th and he may already be out there, so no chance of him fighting in SF on the 4th.

Re: New MMA Calendar
It was on Middle easy's sunday mourning rumor mill,so I wouldn't hold much stock in it.
When I read it though,i thought it was a must post rumor for you though mate.
Here's the rest, and as I said,it's not the most reliable place for rumors,as most of them turn out to be a load of bolloxs.
* After years in business, Pat Miletich has decided to sell his Miletich Fighting Systems gym in Bettendorf, Iowa. After this last run, it's over. Construction is currently going down at the gym as of this past week.
* The rumor(s) swirling around in Japan this morning (night in Japan) is that Keiichi Sasahara is willing to 'lend' Minowaman to Strikeforce in order to replace the injured Valentijn Overeem in the December 4th Strikeforce card. Massive rumor at this point, personally I don't think it will happen.
* While we're on the topic of Japan, all signs point to DREAM being in need of critical help in order to continue in 2011. Apparently PUJI hasn't attracted enough lucarative investors to keep the organization 'above water'. Things are looking bleak for DREAM and there's a good chance that we may never see a DREAM 17.
* A fighter from DREAM plans to jump ship to Strikeforce in 2011.
* Alliance Jiu Jitsu is demanding that Alliance MMA (home of Vera, Beltran and Phil Davis) change their name due to some form of intellectual infringement. This will end up going to court if Alliance MMA doesn't agree.
* French fighter, Jess Liaudin, will face a 'big name' on either SRC's 'Soul of Fight' or 'Dynamite!! 2010'. Not sure if it will be a K-1 match or MMA.
* Matt Brown has not been cut from the UFC roster, despite some reports this weekend.
* South African heavyweight, Rico Hattingh, is negotiating a deal with the UFC.
* Even though Herschel Walker has been nixed from the December 4th Strikeforce card, he still plans to make a donation to the charity which would have been the recipient of his fight purse.
* Another rumor going around is that M-1 Global plans to hold a contest in which the winner would get a 'date' with one of their ring girls. M-1 Global's Evgeni Kogan has disputed this.
* Valentijn Overeem's injury occurred sometime between November 25-27.
* Apparently some MMA collector in the industry is selling inauthentic items for a discounted price, specifically old UFC and Pride press passes. Buyer beware, folks.
* Cage Fury Fighting Championship, the same organization that gave Kimbo Slice his first shot at MMA against Ray Mercer is back on the scene and plans to hold their next event sometime in 2011.

Shame on anyone who says Herschel Walker is bad for the sport. This is exactly the type of man that is GOOD for the sport.

Fair play to Mike Kyle for stepping up weight again and on such short notice. Big respect to him for that, If he puts on a good showing I hope they give him Mo or Mousasi in the number 1 contenders fight. Anyone give him any chance?
Id have far rathered Minowaman though!

Re: New MMA Calendar
I like Kyle and I also think he's better than Overeem but I don't give him much of a chance. I think Silva will just be too big for him here, and pick away at him standing. Kyle doesn't have much hope if it goes to the ground either. Credit to Kyle for having the balls to take the fight, would be huge for his career. if he managed to knock Silva out.

I think this card just got better.
Bigfoot vs Kyle and Radich vs Ovince St Preux is better IMO than Bigfoot vs V Overeem and Hershal vs Scott Carson.
Looking forward to Saturday night.
