BJJ competition
Had my latest competition today, got mauled by a MMA fighter. Had a great time and felt like I did OK defensively.

Re: BJJ competition
Wow man thanks for sharing, thats really great.
Your opponent definelty looked more experienced at grappling but well done for staying in there and making as difficult as possible for him.
Only a matter of time till you win by armbar and post the video here where you will become king of this forum

Re: BJJ competition
to be honest that was my 4th comp, but it was the first time I have competed against some with that level of wrestling ability, and his size and strength did him some favours. I always enjoy competing and my record is now 4-5 overall. been training BJJ around 17 months.

Re: BJJ competition
Nice one man, couple of nice escapes in there. I'm not really to familiar with BJJ competition. Did he catch you with something in the end or is there a time limit? Couldn't really see from the vid.

Re: BJJ competition
Thanks for posting these - haven't watched too much BJJ and didn't realise how much the gi comes into play. Considering you seemed to be smaller than the other fighters, you seemed to be doing alright.
How difficult was it against the last dude cos he was way bigger than you - Omar I think his name was. He looked the better of all your opponents but it looked like that was your best effort.
I am seriously considering joining a gym now.... Thanks for the inspiration!!

Go for it dude, BJJ is brilliant! yeah the gi comes into play a lot.
Ive actually trained with Omar on a couple of occasions in the past, his club used to be affiliated with ours. Fighting him wasnt easy cause of the size thing, and it obviously did come into play when he took me over when I was in top half guard. Initially I would have passed his guard fully if his legs werent so damn long! and when he took me over it wanst a "proper sweep" was just his size advantage really. But the choke he got me with was tight!
actually the first guy I fought this time was the best techniques wise- he apparently got his blue belt the same month i started training
My training in BJJ is down to 1-2 sessions per week now due to family commitments but I am supplementing with one judo session a week (Anfield will be pleased I imagine)
