Re: Patrick Cote cut from UFC
He really needs to work on his ground games. Its just not developed enough during his time in UFC.
Did anyone else see him using the cage to get out of the sub against Lawlor? I called it even before Rogan was told it happenend.
I can see Cote going to MFC and picking up a few wins and come back to UFC.

Re: Patrick Cote cut from UFC
Yeah it's a shame cos he has a great chin and can really bang, but his weakness on the ground/TDD means that against any decent wrestler, the fight will go the same as the Lawlor fight.
We might see him back in the UFC one day but not sure he'll be really relevant unless he improves dramatically.
Amazing to think he was No. 1 contender not so long ago!

I'd like to see Cote fight Ninja Rua. Someone should make that happen.

Gonzaga should walk straight into Strikeforce. Some good fights there for him to be fair.
Amazed Yvel hasn't been cut yet.

Re: Patrick Cote cut from UFC
That's 3 pretty big earners cut from the UFC's wage bill and i can see a few more descent earners being cut yet, like Tito,Kongo,Hunt etc.
It makes sense,as there wages will cover alot more of these new little guys that are now in the UFC,but I hope they don't neglect the bigger guys to much to promote the little guys.
I think adding the WEC lads is an absolutely brilliant move,as they have been for the last few years, putting on some of the best fights in MMA period,so I can't wait, but there will always be something special about the bigger weights and I hate to see the depth of these divisions suffer to much to accommodate the new weight classes.
I hope they bring in a few more guys for next year,to come in and add depth and competition to the heavier divisions,I'd like to see fighters like Sylvia,Ricco,Arona and Rizzo being added to the rosta for next year,I don't think any will be winning a belt, but they would make good replacements for those that have just been cut and they would go along way in keeping the divisions strength in depth

You sound like an old man who sits at home chatting about boxing "always been something special about the bigger weights", what complete wank.

its not thats much bullshit payne is on about keeping the division loaded with half decent fighters. it was only about 18 months ago the division was thin.

Re: Patrick Cote cut from UFC
There has never been anything very special about the HW division in the UFC. The great HW's were in Japan for a long time. The smaller fighters are far more entertaining to watch. The WEC has been putting on far better cards than the UFC for a while now, as have every other organization around. The UFC tends to put on 1 or 2 good fights, and then pad the card with filler and snoozefests. On some cards they haven't even delivered good fights. Can't remember the last great UFC card.

Re: Patrick Cote cut from UFC
ufc 92 was the last GREAT card i remember maybe ufc 100. your right though in that wec have great fights and bringing them to ufc will get these fighters into more homes.

Re: Patrick Cote cut from UFC
i think what payne means is that at the high level the heavyweights are the ABSOLUTE best fighters in the world.
not counting p4p or anything, it might just be the appeal of seeing the actual best of the best fight...and that is heavyweights (in general!)

Re: Patrick Cote cut from UFC
A run through the list of UFC HW champions would show that there has never really been anything special about the HW division in the UFC until now. And even then, would anyone actually prefer to watch Cain, as great as he is, over Jose Aldo??
