Sloppy punch to the temple of an off balance fighter and then some GnP is not a KO of the year contender.

Re: Best KO of the year so far?
that's exactly what happened. Machida was off balance, Shogun caught him with a sloppy punch to the temple, got lucky and landed in mount and then GnP'd him out. Not even close to a KO of the year.

Shogun set the punch up perfectly and you know it. He used the same punch in the first fight, you just cant accept that your boy Machida is on a two fight losing streak.

Eh no, he's lost once in his career. And has a list of clear victories before it, including one over Shogun.
Lucky punch, caught him off balance. Simple as.

And for those reasons you stated (previously unbeaten etc) is why it's the ko of the year chum

Re: Best KO of the year so far?
It didn't seem like a KOTY canditate to me, sloppy or not it wasn't as sick as Lawler on Manhoef or Russow on Duffee. Im a bit bias towards one punch Kos and comebacks though.

Go to the 3:55 mark that is scariest KO I have ever seen people literally thought Kanehara was dead.

It was a sloppy punch against an off balance fighter. Never even close to KO of the year.

For the simple reason that the first fight was so close and the 2nd was so decisive.....
Let's agree to disagree anfield

Good point George, Sandro's KO of Kanehara was better than the lot of them.

My favourite KO so far, has to be Shogun on Machida. I dont think i ever screamed with joy as much i did when i watched it.

Re: Best KO of the year so far?
People will immedietly look to the well known fighters and big fights for their KO's of the year, very much like a fight of the year is likely to be a big fight. As much as I love Shogun, his KO was good, and I am dubious about the 'losing balance' business. At the end of the day, if you were to include the Shogun Machida knockout then you'd have a very long list of similarly average knockouts to include.
Basically, it wasn't a standout.

Re: Best KO of the year so far?
But Hendo i think Shogun- Machida was KO of the year because they are well known fighters and it was a huge fight. The circumstances surrounding the rematch and the expectations of both men was huge, and Shogun came out and KTFO of Lyoto in the first round. For me, that is well worthy of KO of the year.

Re: Best KO of the year so far?
from a purely asthetic stand point, it was probably not the best....although it was very brutal finish...
but the drama of the KO was what set it apart! especially considering the first fight.

Re: Best KO of the year so far?
I'd go with Sandro - Kanehara, but I think Gomi - Griffin should be in contention too now.
