Been hoping UFC snap this guy ever since his impressive display at ADCC 2009 against multiple grappling champion Galvao.
I cant find a video, but here is a summary of his display at the event.
Chris Weidman, one of the top prospects out of our camp, competed yesterday in the most prestigious grappling tournament on earth, the ADCC, held in Barcelona Spain.
He didn't have a single point scored against him in the regional trials, submitting 2 black belts and winning 2 in dominating fashion by points.
With just over a year of official BJJ/MMA training, the 4 time all American wrestler/BJJ purple belt/2-0 pro MMA fighter wins his first match in Barcelona in a landslide 19-0 smashfest.
His second match sees him matched up with ANDRE F'ING GALVAO....you may have heard of this guy
Weidman goes in, and narrowly escapes a super slick armbar, and then proceeds to ragdoll Galvao around, nearly SUBMITTING the multiple world champ black belt with both a Brabo and a Peruvian Necktie. Weidman maintains top position, landing several punishing hip tosses every time Galvao scrambles out.
Galvao buttscoots the entire first 10 minutes.
After this time, you are penalized for buttscooting, so Galvao skirts the outside of the competition area, forcing a reset every time Weidman engages. Weidman does however manage to land some punishing snapdowns, forcing Galvao's head to the mat.
After nearly 15 minutes of non stop action, Galvao, visibly tired, manages to scramble and take Weidmans back with both hooks, but Weidman escapes.
The match ends, 4-0 in Galvao's favor....
He's a 4 time all-american wrestling champ in college, and has beaten beaten Bader and NCAA division 1 champ Phil "Mr. Wonderful" Davis.
He undefeated 4-0, and will make his debut against Sakara in just over 2 weeks time.
