Coleman retires

Although he hasn’t fought since his 2010 loss to Randy Couture, it has always been a questions whether or not Mark Coleman would fight again. We now have our answer as the 48-year-old recently posted on his Facebook page that he needs a total hip replacement.

Total Hip replacement next Monday. Ouch.

The hammer is done fighting. I know been done. Just looking for some prayers.

i thank everyone who will help me get through this. Have to pay to play sometimes. Only regret is could have worked harder.

Two full decades of fighting have taken its toll on Coleman, and he is now officially ready to call it quits. Having fought in both Pride and the UFC, he has notable wins over Mauricio Shogun Rua, Dan Severn, Stephan Bonnar, and Don Frye. Mark’s career highlights include being the first ever UFC Heavyweight Champion, the 2000 Pride Fighting Championship Open Weight Grand Prix Champion, and being one of the first fighters inducted to the UFC Hall of Fame.

I hate to be 'that guy' but he shuld have retired years ago probably the Bonnar fight would have been the ideal time or probably Fedor at Pride 33, That said would have been interesting to see him fight Wakakirin Shinichi.

Bonnar was a great win, he took Jones the distance in his previous fight and after the Coleman fight went 2-3 one loss being to Anderson. Great win at his age.

I think he retired at the right time, he is too old to be a competitive Hw where he is undersized now and the 205lbs cut seemed to half kill him for the Couture fight, he was Coleman of the walking dead in that fight looked awfull against a man his own age. Ideal way to go out I think 1st HOF vs HOF fight too.

A lot of people on here still have him in the top 5 at Hw which really shows how much of an impact he had on the sport.

Like Wandereli and Shogun I love Coleman because he was a fighter who thrived in the No Holds barred type of environment, where they loved a good soccerkick I remember him getting on top of Igor fand letting those Knees go to the head, or the Headbutts were scary before they were banned. Could be wrong but I dont remember any fighter more effectivley using them than Coleman getting top positing and bulling down with them.

Hope he can get a UFC Job, Was he bad when he was on the comentary?

He use to do occasional guest Commentary for Pride IIRC he was OK the typical guest commentator of Pride TBH. I'd like to see him get an 'office job' akin to Hughes, Liddell and Couture before he snaked his way out to join Bellator.
