Think back to 2009 after UFC bought Pride over and had access to their contracts like Hunts. UFC had seen hunt as not worth the while, he was in his mid 30's and wasnt close to being top 50 ranked after 5 back to back losses.
Hunt is only paid 6K to show 6K to win I believe so they offered to pay him the remainder of his contract to sit on the sofa at home and not worry about ever having to make that 265lbs weight cut again!
Hunt being the fighter he is refused and wanted to turn up and fight for his pay, so come UFC 119 Hunt shows up only to take another 1st round loss, his 6th in a row to Sean McCorkle, possibly the worst fighter Hunt has ever lost to.
With a record of 5-7 in MMA it looked like Hunt's fighting days were over and the man who beat Crocop and Wandereli was long gone.
Now Hunt has fought his way back to being the #8 Heavyweight in the world after an amazing 4 fight streak. The Rally for Hunt to get another title shot is starting again and by my books being the UFC Heavy with the longest winning spree he is probabally a fight away.
In my opinion the Super Samoan has the greatest underdog story ive seen as an MMA fan. I cant remember a fighter sinking so low only to come back at 38 and be on top of the world like he is. Long may his run continue, right now he is probabally the man Id most like to see holding that UFC Title however unlikely.
Anyone know of a better come back story for an MMA fighers career? Who do you all want to see him fight next? I hear a few calls of Nelson going up should he get past Kongo...
Ive always wanted him to fight Nog or Bigfoot myself.
