UFC 156 results, whats next for them?

    Post  rudeboyben84 on Sun Feb 03, 2013 7:29 pm

Aldo vs Pettis!!! This one seems to be happening, Aldo commented on moving to 155 but for a fight with Pettis who has beat the Lw champ I see him staying.

Edgar vs Korean Zombie. Dana said about Edgar going to 135 and his camp said about it. Faber vs Edgar would be great.

Bigfoot for a title shot? If Cormier wants Mir, Werdum is fighting Nog late in the year, Junior isnt walking into a shot with a convincing loss. Barnett lost to Cormier. Bigfoot did get steamrolled and wasnt looking great in the 1st 2 rounds but he beat Fedor and Overeem as well as the win over Browne. If Cain wants to stay busy id like to see a rematch.

Lil Nog just beat a top 5 guy in the devision, I honestly didnt think id see that happen. Machida and Henderson are matched up. Gus and Mousasi are too. I could see him vs Shogun happening on the next TUF Brazil. Forrest needs a fight too, id like to see that.

Evans might not move to 185 any more, Weidman is getting the shot by the sound of it. Bader if he stays at 205, if not Lombard vs Evans would be the one id like to see. Lombard might give him a 195lbs fight to ease him into the cut.

Overeem gets the JDS Still. Junior needs a win and its a good fight. I think Overeem will get torn apart, I was blinded by the offence and thought he was a different fighter than the guy who turned his back of Sergei, but he doesnt cope well when he gets tagged. Needs to lean out a little, 250lbs Overeem might be better if he wants to pull the Anderson hands down Boxing style.

Maia gets Condit vs Macdonald winner? 1 fight away from a shot id say anyway.

Dodson vs McCall would be great, Benavidez has got the rematch for the title id say.

Who was that guy who looked like Tyrone Woodley,I mean surely that can't be the same dry humper that was in Strikeforce.

I never in a million years imagined him doing that to Heiron, very impressive.

Bobby Green looks like he's going to be a good addition to the division, glad he beat volkmann.

Tibau is the ultimate gatekeeper for the division, nobody gets an easy fight against him.
A good fight between two really tough SOB's and it was just a case of Dunhams cardio being better that helped him get the win.

Good win for Benavidez, the Flyweights are starting to show more of what I'd been hoping from them, fast high tempo fights.

So John Fitch finally gets a dose of his own medicine and gets ridden and totally controlled for 15 mins.
Maia looks really strong at this weight,I can see a WW title shot in his future.

What a win for Bigfoot.I thought he was way to passive in the first 2 rds,he basically gave Reem those rds without Reem actually having to do that much, but then, just as a few of us thought and have commented on in the past,Reems chin and heart were put to the test and he failed.

Well done to Lil Nog,that was a good win for him and he IMO easily deserved the decision, but that was a piss poor performance from Evans,he was either still in shock from his boy Reem getting his lights turned out,or he's just not as motivated as he once was when at Jacksons.
Maybe being one of the bosses at the Blackzillians is having a detrimental effect on him and his work rate.

A good main event,Frankie is P4P the toughest bastard in the UFC,no doubts.
I actually thought Frankie won the last 3 rds,but in those 1st 2 rds,Aldo easily won them and showed us why he is a great.
He has cardio issues, but that is the only flaw in his game, striking wise and even defensively,he's got it all.

    Isaac Vallie-Flagg - Tony Ferguson

    Bobby Green - Micheal Johnson

    Tyron Woodley - Ebersole/Story

    Evan Dunham - Jamie varner

    Joseph Benavidez - Mighty Mouse

Demian Maia - Kos,Kampmann or let him have revenge on Nate

Antonio Silva - I think he should of earned the JDS fight but don't know if they'll fight each other,it's a hard one, maybe he could go for the winner of Cormier - Mir,but after the last time he faced Cormier I don't know so maye,Carwin or the winner of Struve - Hunt.

Lil Nog - if machida beats Hendo, then we can have the Lil nog vs Hendo rematch. If not the winner of mousasi and Gustaffson or maybe Forrest.

Aldo - I like the idea of pettis, but I'd prefer him to continue going for the LW title. So at FW if that's where Aldo is going to stay for now,I'd be up for an Edar rematch or give KZ his shot.

I still can not believe Big Foot stopped Overeem, even though I'm a huge Overeem fan I'm so glad he lost I got the impression he felt Silva was beneath him you could see the disdain in Overeem's mannerisms he seen this as a cake walk and toyed with Big Foot for 2 Rounds. In the 3rd Round he got clipped thought he had 10oz Gloves on his defense was awful the way he waded in close with his hands up.

I don't understand why Rogan was insinuating the Aldo v Edgar fight was so close I thought Aldo won the fight very comfortably, I did hear post fight that Dana White said that Anthony Pettis could be next in line for Aldo after he suggested the fight to White, I think this GIF explains my feeling on the fight.

Nice to see Fitch get Fitched' by Maia that was very gratifying to watch. What the fuck was Evans doing he looked completely gun shy very tentative he seemed to forget his wrestling too I really don't see where he goes at LHW I think MW seems the obvious move. I really enjoyed the midgetwigh....I mean Flyweight fight I actually wished It was a 5 Rounder.

The Prelims were good I enjoyed Bobby Green's win over Volkmann you could see his confidence grow Round by Round. Good win for Vallie-Flagg damn close fight I kind of felt a split would have been the result and that defeat to Nate has seemed to light a fire under Woodley's arse he seemed intent on making a statement which he did.

Rogan's bias clouding judgement again I see. Frankie got his ass kicked, again. 4 rounds to 1 easy. Aldo dominated him. Picked him apart at will and caused damage whenever he felt like it. No way should their be a rematch, Frankie's had more than enough undeserved title fights. Comical if he does go to 135, Barao and Cruz will both beat him comfortably.

Next for Edgar - More crying from him and favourtism towards him from Dana and Co.
Next for Aldo - Pettis. Could be the most exciting fight ever. Pettis will actually come to fight as well so it'll be a real challenge for Aldo.

Rashad looked awful. Worst performance of his career. Nog was poor as well, he just moved forward more often.

Next for Nog - Shogun. Two finished fighters but capable of bringing the best out of each other.
Next for Rashad - 185 and a rematch with Bisping

Delighted Reem got sparked. Cocky twat showed a ridiculous lack of respect to Big Foot.

Next for Big Foot - JDS
Next for Reem - Probably more steroids and then the Nog/Werdum winner.

Was funny seeing Fitch get frustrated at being dominated. At least Maia did it and was trying to end the fight, not just humping for the sake of humping.

Next for Maia - Nate the Average hopefully.
    Next for Fitch - Kampmann

Benavediz will surely get a title shot. At which point I might be arsed learning to spell his name.

Dodson vs Uncle Creepy would be a lot of fun!

Aldo beat him in the 1st 3 rounds no doubt. People (Like Joe Rogan) forgot it isnt all about the volume of strikes but the fact Edgar need 2 strikes to equal 1 of Aldos because of power. If we arent taking this into account MMA will become glorified tag.

Edgar needed a KO from the 4th onwards but wanted to play his points based game! Im glad he lost. Needs to stop thinking about points and feeling hard done by because I watched him get his ass handed to him.

Maby Rashad/Nog was a southpaw with Awsome TDD who is a better boxer completely threw him off his game? Nog looked like he was happy to just keep playing the same game that was edging him the fight. Strange fight, Neither man looked good but as a Nog fan I dont care, Im glad to see him beat a top 3 guy and rocket up the rankings.

Few saying about Nate rematch, Id love to see Maia fight him, I reckon he could use the same strategy he did against Fitch but Nate is considerabally lower than him in the pecking order now.

I had Edgar winning the last 3 rds,the last 2 were Edgar's rds,he out worked an Aldo who had slowed, the 3 rd was close,it could of gone either way but I thought Edgar was the busier of the two and landed slightly more, the first 2 were easy rds for Aldo.

I'm not gutted by the decision,I thought it was close and I'd like to see it again,it was a good fight.

People (Like Joe Rogan) forgot it isnt all about the volume of strikes but the fact Edgar need 2 strikes to equal 1 of Aldos because of power.

Can't agree with that at all,if I'm understanding you right.
are you saying that if a guy like, say Hendricks lands a total of 6 punches in a round,GSP's has to land 12 clean punches to tie the round because hendricks hits harder.

Yes mate, Both Boxing and K-1 score fights this way. Its not ALL about volume, 2 jabs arent worth more than an uppercut that wobbles an oppoenent.

If this was the case, lighter weights who have less chance of a KO wouldnt commit to any strikes. The Damage out do with a strike has to be a factor. Edgar doesnt punch hard or commit to punches, this should be taken into account.

In your eyes to you score an Edgar leg kicks almost thrown to score a strike on the stats equal an Aldo leg kicks that drops him?

I did slightly misunderstand you,you didn't say anything about wobbling or dropping your opponent, just that a power hitter doesn't have to land as many as a lighter hitter.

Those leg kicks were nasty, but the one that put Edgar down was more down to taking his leg from under him, completely different from dropping someone from a head or body shot.
Still it's a strike that deserves awarding, but more in line with a takedown IMO,not to the degree of wobbling or dropping someone.

The first two rounds I agree,Aldo's strikes were causing damage, they hurt edgar and easily won him the rds,but in the last 3 rds,Edgar wasn't wobbled by Aldo, they were both landing punches, but neither were landing strikes that nearly finished the other or even had their opponent in trouble,so then surely those rds come down to volume then, not,I know one hits harder so his punches should automatically score higher.

Plus Edgar's takedowns and clinches should score him points as well, shouldn't they, this is Mixed martial arts.

I do agree with you in the fact, obviously a clean jab doesn't equate to a clean hook/uppercut or any power punch.

But frankie wasn't just jabbing away and half arsing his attacks,he was throwing his own power shots, mixing up his attacks and trying to win.

Surely if Aldo's strikes were more effective than Edgars, he can still win a round whilst landing fewer punches?
I saw a comment elsewhere that said:

"Edgar even beat Aldo at his own game: leg kicks."

(because the stats showed he landed more kicks)...when anyone can clearly see that Aldo utilised leg kicks more effectively.

4-1 to Aldo, I gave him the edge in the last round. The others were pretty clear cut.

Yeah mate thats it I dont think a power hitter has to outland his opponent to win. The effect of the strike is something that has to be measured, Not just saying Aldo has to land less because on paper he is a bigger hitter, saying Aldo has to land less because his strikes are messing Edgar up.

Anyway on just stats Fightmetric had Aldo winning all but the 4th. Couldnt argue with that though there were tight rounds I can see why people question it but I also think a lot of those MMA fighters comenting might have been rooting for Frankie. When your hoping for a guy you really tend to only focus on what they are doing in the fight.

Looking at those stats today in no one contests the 1st and 2nd for Aldo, so the 3rd saw Aldo land a leg kick to edgars 7... which if you look at my arguement on power of the shots really puts them at about even! Especially given the damage done to that leg, Its like a punch to a rocked opponent almost! Laughing and Headshots Aldo outlanded him 14-8. As well as Stuffing 2 TD's. Good round in the books for me.

Yeah TD's score points but Aldo was stuffing those TD and springing back up, they dont count for much. Still gave him the 4th based on Wrestling.

In the 5th there was 2 more Stuffed TD's. He again outlanded him in headshots 14-8 . Its wether an Aldo headshot makes up for a few Edgar leg kicks Ill take Cecil Peoples aproach on that myself because Edgars leg kicks arent ending Aldos night.

Wasnt controversial for me. Edgar had some Cheek to say he felt hard done by in the state he was in bleeding badly and limping home. Still he did very well for us to even be having this discussion about the decision and scoring etc..

Fair play to him, tough as they come and was mixing it up with guys Maynards size. Frankie can stick about at 145 against top contenders. Aldo is moving to 155 soon, that cut isnt doing him any good. His cardio was going in the 3rd and Joe Rogan talked about him leaning out to make weight. Aldo wouldnt be too small for 155 and Edgar is my pick to hold that belt after he leaves.

Whoever said that didnt watch the fight, I honestly think I could beat Aldo at his own game if he could make my weight based on that comment...

Step 1, Run in with your hands turtling up, full on James Thompson style charge.
Step 2, Land and sort of really short range pathetic leg kick
Step 3, Aldo knocks me out in the 1st strike he throws.

As long as that isnt a legkick he finishes me with ill have beat the Great Jose Aldo at his own game. Result. Rounds 1 - 1 leg kicks to 0 out of the 2 strikes landed in the fight. Legend in the making here.

Seriously though he is a 145lbs Pat Barry with those leg kicks. He will stop fight with those before his career is out.

You reckon he will beat Pettis? I dont think he will be at 145lbs in 2014 no matter how this year goes.

4-1 to Aldo, I gave him the edge in the last round. The others were pretty clear cut.

I thought the 1st and 2nd were clear cut though nowhere near 10-8's,and Edgar, winning the 4th,was pretty straight forward, even though not as dominantly as Aldo winning the first 2,but 3 and 5 were very tight.
If it was scored overall, then the points Aldo built up in the 1st and 2nd alone, compared to the last 3 rounds,i don't think there would even be a discussion about Edgar maybe sneaking the fight.
But because it's rd to rd,it turned it into a much closer fight.

I agree, even if Edgar landed the same amount of strikes in the first 2 rds,Aldo would of still won the rounds because his strikes were more effective,I'm not arguing that,I'm saying that in the last 3 rds, neither was landing really significant blows,so for me,I scored them leaning towards, who I thought at the time, landed the more strikes and seemingly controlled the pace and position of the fight took place.

either way, your not going to hear me complaining about the decision,i can see why many people gave the fight to Aldo. For me,either getting excited about a good fight or for what ever reason,i personally, while watching the fight, just gave Frankie the edge on round to round scoring.

It was a good fight, and one I'd be more than happy seeing again.

There have been alot of fights that were nowhere near as close as this that people want to see rematched,i don't get why some would not want to see that again.

Like I said, Rogan's ridiculously biased commentary clouding people's judgement.

Frankie did nothing in the fight, clearly beaten.
