Next contender in all weight classes

    Post  rudeboyben84 on Fri May 04, 2012 9:19 pm

Hw: Gotta be Cain. I reckon UFC will squeeze a rematch in before Overeem gets back. Bigfoot looked in some shape in that pic becide Hunt but I think if Cormier can do it he can too.

    Lhw: Hendo

Mw: Hector Lombard, Dana said it would make sence for him to fight the Sonnen/Silva winner. I reckon Sonnen vs Lombard for the title before the end of the year. Anyone else?

Ww: Hendricks if he gets the win over Kos apparently. Makes sence. Suppose he will fight Condit as oppose to GSP. Wonder where that leaves Diaz when he comes back... hope this Sueing the Comission doesnt come back to haunt him, but I reckon he hasnt made a good move anyway. Hendricks to fight Condit after KOing KOS.

Lw: Apparently its Diaz if he beats Miller! I can see him doing it. If not I reckon it will be Pettis could get the shot though Im backing Diaz tomorrow night. UD by way of boxing lesson.

Fw: Korean Zombie. The casual fans dont quite know the Fw's as well so I dont think they would make too much noise about him not quite being the top ranked guy. Him vs Dustin Poirier is a number 1 contenders fight I reckon. Suppose it makes sence, Rankings wise only Siver and Mendez will be over the winner. People dont see Siver as a contender in the devision as he entered it off the back of a loss. Mendez had his shot. Hioki doesnt want it. Calling Zombie to win SD in a war.

    Bw: Faber again.

Fly: Ian McCall all the way, I reckon he is winning the rematch against Mightymouse. UD.

Don't think it makes any sense for Lombard to get a title shot and beating Stann certainly doesn't earn him a title shot. He should have at least 1 more fight IF he gets past Stann. Palhares or Munoz would be the best bets. Can't see him beating either of those.

Id have no problem with him getting a title shot off the back of beating Stann, the guy would have gone something like 26 fights unbeaten. He is coming to UFC as Bellator champ, CFC and AFC champ. It would seem fairly standard to give him a 'warmup fight' then a title shot.

Munoz isnt getting past Weidman anyway. Weidman vs Palhares I reckon and if someone fights Lombard before the title shot I reckon it would be Belfort if he KO's Wandy.

It would make things in the title race interesting if Wandy beats Belfort! Imagine beating Chung, Bisping and Belfort back to back.. then we have Franklin returning, I think he beats Cung too and establishes himself as a contender. I want to see him fight Bisping.

Yeah Munoz deffo has more stopping power in his hands, cant remember seeing much power behing Weidman, but I think Weidman is a little more well rounded (better BJJ for sure) and I think Size and youth are on his side too... I know its a bit of MMA Math but he handled Maia a lot better I think.

Should be a good one, I guess the winner would probabally be the most diserving as IMO Belfort wont have done as much since getting teeped out!

I still cant get over Munoz was a 205er... he doesnt even strike me as a big 85er!

HW - After Mir gets killed and once Cain beats Big Foot, I think they might make Cain VS Barnett/Cormier winner and then try to squeeze in a fight with JDS before the end of the year, although Overeem can fight on the NYE bill, so it wouldn't shock me if Overeem gets a shot at JDS in December.

LHW - It looks like Gustafsson will face Lil Nog, and once Jones beats Henderson it looks like that might be the only current option. Unless Jones has a try out fight at HW against someone of Mitrione's quality or something. Although with the way that Jones controls his diet and workout in order to maintain that he stays around 225, I doubt that having a one off fight at HW would be that smart. So it looks like the Gustafsson/Lil Nog winner will be next if that fight does take place, even though neither would be worthy as none have beat a top 5 fighter. They should have made Machida/Shogun VS Gustafsson as a victory for Gustafsson there would make him worthy of a shot.

MW - Despite what Dana said about Lombard, it has to be Munoz next for me if he beats Weidman. If Weidman beats Munoz then maybe give Lombard the shot and make Weidman/Bisping when Bisping beats Boestch, but if Munoz beats Weidman then give Munoz the title shot, and if Lombard beats Stann then have Lombard VS Belfort for the next #1 contender. They could make Bisping VS Palhares then too. This is all based on Silva beating Sonnen as well (which I think will happen), because if Sonnen beats Silva it wouldn't surprise me if Silva gets a rematch in Brazil.

WW - GSP VS Condit set to happen in late 2012, so what probably makes sense is to make Ellenberger (if he beats Kampmann) VS Hendricks (if he beats Koscheck) as the co-main event that night, and have the winners face each other. Does Koscheck deserve a fight with Ellenberger for #1 contender if he beats Hendricks? Hmmm, maybe give Koscheck the #1 contender fight too, he would have won 4 straight to be fair. Diaz VS Penn rematch as well maybe?

LW - Dana has said that if Diaz wins he gets the next shot. Diaz isn't going to sit aside for 9 months. Diaz/Miller winner VS Pettis for the #1 contender to face Hendo once he beats Edgar again.

FW - Koch not worthy of a shot yet in my opinion but he's facing Aldo. Once Aldo beats him then it looks like Poirier/Korean Zombie winner will get the next shot. Hioki should be next in line (and should have fought Aldo but he didn't want it yet) but it looks like Poirier/KZ winner will get it. Make Alcantara (Who I thought should have fought Aldo if he was moved to Brazil as that fight would have been huge over there) VS Hioki for next #1 contender once Hioki beats Lamas.

BW - Faber next obviously, although I can't see him beating Cruz, so obviously Barao looks to be next in line. I don't like the Barao-Menjivar fight though, should have made Barao VS Bowles. Michael McDonald VS Brad Pickett is another fight that I would make next.

FLW - Benavidez VS Johnson in my opinion will be the final. Johnson will have a better game plan for the rematch with McCall and now knows what he is dealing with. The first guy that they will defend against will probably be John Dodson in my opinion.

HW's surely going to be Cain.

Do you think Cain would fight Cormier,Sheldan ?

I can't see him making his UFC debut against his training partner personally.

I don't care that much for Barnett,(just a personality thing, his talent speaks for itself)but In a way I'm hoping Barnett wins,so Cormier can work his way through the UFC contenders.
Barnett's already earned his stripes in the sport,I don't want to see him against your Struves,Kongos and Brownes, yet I would look forward to Cormier taking on these type of fighters first.

I'd like to see Reem on the new years card, but I don't think it'll be for the title,I think with the way he fucked things up for the UFC,they'll make him fight again to become the #1 contender.

Doesn't the winner of the Strikeforce Grand prix contractually have to fight again in strikeforce before they can move over?
If so,the timing would be about perfect to face Reem on the New years card.
Barnett vs Reem would be a perfect #1 contenders fight for a new years card cheers

    At LHW,Hendo's obviously next,after that,it's a bit of a mess.
    If Jones loses,then I think there'll be a rematch.

Infact once Jones beats Hendo,I can see rematches finishing the majority of Jones career at LHW.

The timing doesn't seem to work for anyone to have a straight up case for being next.

If Shogun beat Thiago and Gustaffson beats Lil Nog,I think they should fight each other for the #1 spot,if Thiago or Nog wins, that messes things right up,they would surely have to fight and beat, the winner Machida or Bader and Evans or Hendo before they should get a shot.

In a perfect world forgetting the already made match ups,I'd have Jones fight Hendo for the belt,While Mousasi and Feijao fight for the Strikeforce belt, then bring the winner over to challenge Jones,so the rest of the division can sort itself out.

    Have Shogun fight Evans
    Gustaffson fights Machida
the winners fight each other for a title shot.

MW,Munoz next if he beats Weidman,if not,Belfort again if he beats Wandi, then I'd say Bisping is next in line.

I think Lombard should have a couple of fights first before he's looked upon as a contender, lets face it Lombard looks a beast against a certain calibre of fighter, yet when he's stepped up the standard,he's not looked the same world beater.

WW,I think if Ellenburger beats Kampmann he should get the immediate shot against Condit.
If Kampmann wins,I would give it to Hendricks if he beats Kos.
Then hopefully after that's all sorted out,we can have GSP and Diaz back in the mix.

    LW,I don't really get how Dana claims,Diaz gets a shot on a win,but Miller doesn't.
Diaz is 3-3 in his last 6 LW fights and 8-3 overall in the UFC at LW,while Miller is 5-1 in his last 6 and 10-2 overall.
I'd have the winner of this face the winner of Guida and Maynard, for the #1 spot.

FW,it looks like the winner of KZ/Piorier gets the next shot.
I do like the sounds of Hioki vs Alcantara for the next spot,if they both get through their next fights.

    BW,Faber next,then I'd say it's got to be Barao.
I'd have Bowles vs McDonald as well as the Jorgenson vs Wineland, next to thin out the next contenders.

FlyW - i think we see McCall beat mighty mouse, but lose to Benavidez for the belt.

Good point about Cormier, I forgot about that. If Cain and Cormier both win then give Cain the immediate shot. I know that the plan was to try and have the GP winner have one more fight but apparently that plan might be off due to the fact there is nobody. Surely if they do have a fight it will have to be against Fedor.

Condit is meant to be waiting for GSP so I don't think we will see Condit VS Ellenberger/Hendricks for the interim title.
