Frank Mir says "Werdum’s (BJJ) is better than mine"

Werdum replied,

“I didn’t see it coming, I’ve always seen him as a ‘cocky’ guy. I guess he’s a very good athlete, and he proved the world he has great Jiu-Jitsu level… I don’t see myself as the best on the ground, but I’ve shown the world I can handle things there. I guess this fight (against Mir) could happen, absolutely… My next appointment is Roy Nelson, but it’s one of the fights that might come up.”



Well said most of us think of Mir as a Cocky sort of character. Really humgle for a man who Snapped Nogs arm and could have spouted some sort of madness about his MMA JJ being better!

Id love to see this fight happen. Both guys Striking has come on really well, it would be a fun fight to watch Standing and despite Nog beating him standing I think I would slightly favor Mir on the feet just based on Boxing skills alone. Werdums Muay Thai has looked really improved recently but I think Mirs punch power woud tip it in his favor.

He said himself Werdum holds the grappling advantage, so this is a close fight in my eyes and a legit number 1 contenders fight too.

Hope Werdum wins tomorrow night.

I've actually warmed up to Mir in the last year or so, I never used to like him but his new sense of maturity earns my respect. Anyone who subs and Kos Big Nog is obviously a very good fighter. I don't think he'll ever be champ in a division with so many strong fighters with powerful punches but he can still stick around the top 5 for a while.

Werdum has the best BJJ at HW IMO. Somewhat ironically he's been somewhat cocky recently, he was calling Nelson fatty or something like that. Still a big fan of his and I think he's a top 5 fighter. Probably won't be a champion but definitely a contender. He has some unfinished business with Overroid IMO because no one really "won" the last fight. At the same time I'm sure no one is in a rush to see a rematch between the two.

Not so sure about that tbh. Mir has better striking and Werdum doesn't have the best take down offence either. It would probably be a shit fight and turn into a crappy kickboxing match that Mir would edge. It would turn out like Werdum vs Arvloski or Overoid.

It's one of those fights where I'm curios to see who would win and how they did but really I think it would be a case of two similar fighters canceling each other out with one of them edging it.

My problem with Mir was not so much about his arrogance but more to do with his disrespect of his opponents. Especially with Lesnar. But he has really toned it down since the Kongo fight and I've always had respect for him for the way he returned after the accident.

I do give the guy respect for his achievement in making that comeback, but in my mind, his arrogance went hand in hand with his disrespect of other fighters, there is no doubt, that the man does have good BJJ, and his stand up could test a lot of decent HWs, but, you do get the feeling, that if he was only half as good, as he thought he was, then he'd be a shoo in for HOF. I would like to see him vs Cain, or loser of JDS/Overoid, I think Mir/Werdum would be even moe of a snoozefest than Werdum/Overoid.

Mir doesn't need to care about Werdum's BJJ being better than his, if they ever fought, Mir would beat him comfortable standing and not need to go to the ground.

I think Mir has most underated striking at HW division, the problem is he has a bad habbit of being too passive during fights and not respecting the power of his opponents in his division with such small gloves, paticularly when he's pressed up against the cage.


If you watch Nog fight again (which i do everyday ), when Nog has him against the cage he hits his 3 solid times with a right hand before Mir decides to put his left hand up. Same problem with Carwin fight, he's too relaxed at times.



Werdum fight is definetly a fight i'd like to see, but chances are he gets Cain next.

Completely disagree with this. In fact, I would say the complete opposite. I would back Mir to knock him out, or at least win a comfortable decision.

I think it's abit of a toss up between Mir and Werdum really.There records as well as their styles are very similar.

If I was forced to choose,then I think I would go for Mir as he has the power advantage.

I don't think you would find much difference on their prices at the bookies,probably Mir would be slight favorite.

I know what you are saying but I do thinks sometimes people gave him grief just for being confident rather than overconfident. Like that interview he had where he was asked about Fedor. Mir said something like "I agree he is the best HW in the world, but if you asked me do I think I can beat him I would say absolutely." A lot of people gave him a lot of shit for that and I always thought he was hard done by.

With that being said I think he would probably lose to Cain, JDS and Overeem.

That's actually a very good point, especially when you consider Mir's chin. He needs to work on his defense and not be so damn casual.
