    Sonnen v Bisping

Post  mikeyboybisping on Wed Feb 01, 2012 8:16 pm

I had it 29 - 28 for Bisping. Sonnen probably edged the third but the first two were very close. Britain's number one fighter certainly shut a few folk up though and put in a proud performance. On another day Sonnen wouldn't have gotten so lucky.

    Unlucky Mike.

I had It 30-27 Sonnen first 2 Rounds were close but the take downs for Sonnen swung It for me apart from wall stalling and the odd nice pitter patter combinations I don't think Bisping did enough in those Rounds as for the 3rd easily the clearest Round to score.

I thought the first 2 rounds evened each other out while Sonnen clearly took the 3rd - 29-28 Sonnen

    29-28 Sonnen for me.

Gave Sonnen the first, thought Bisping just edged the second and the third round was a clear round for Sonnen.

Overall though I think Bisping came out of this fight, with his head held high,he put on a good performance,be it a losing one, against a fighter who is ranked as one of the best MW's on the planet and he didn't look at all out of place fighting him.

Bisping obviously takes his fair share of shit, alot of it thoroughly deserved IMO,but one thing I wont argue against,is that he's a solid fighter, who is hard to beat and isnt out of place or mismatched against any top ten fighters.

Would I back him to beat most top ten fighters, then NO,but I'm confident he'd give the majority of them a good fight.

Looks like you were the only one who scored it for Bisping then! Laughing I got it 29-28 Sonnen, he won 1 and 3 for sure.

Unlucky doesnt come into question. Most people put this down as Bispings best performance - a loss.

You really gotta consider where he stands in the devision now given that he lost to Wanderlei.

Its a long way back to the top from here and I think he could end up getting someone like Palhares or Stann and dropping out of the top 15.

Good point, not to mention he also failed a drugs test after his best performance! If he fights Silva the way he fought Bisping he will get finished, again!

I gave it 30-27 to Sonnen, Bisping just didn't do enough for me. Although I can understand the 29/28 scorelines for Sonnen. The 3rd was clearly Sonnens, with Sonnen edging the first 2 also.

Think this was as close as Bisping has come to beating a top-ranked fighter, but it was a clear loss.

Lucky? Sonnen had an off day and still won comfortable.

"probably edged the third"? Jesus christ. Next thing you'll be claiming that Dan Henderson barely KO'd the cunt.

Not really. If he takes Anderson done it's round over. 5 TDs = 5 rounds to Sonnen.

If this was his best performance of his career then it really does say a lot about his achievements. Good fighter yes, great fighter no. I predict he loses by submission AGAIN Anderson.

Where's the Bisping 30-0 Sonnen option?

In all seriousness I believe Sonnen just about edged the fight although I really thought Bisping was going to win. I am certainly no fan of Bisping but he earned some respect in my eyes as a fighter. However he cost himself the fight by just wall n stalling Sonnen when he could have been doing damage. If I am being perfectly honest, he was quite unlucky. I think Bisping is one of those fighters who so overrated by the UFC he actually became underrated by the rest of the MMA community. While he doesn't have any huge wins, he doesn't have any bad losses are and to give Evans, Wandi and Sonnen good close fights shows he is in fact a good fighter, just not a great one. Am I a Bitchping fan? No but credit where credit is due. The fight does nothing to change my opinion of him as a person.

Sonnen was poor in my opinion, his cardio was poor, his take downs were weak. If he fights like that against Silva he is getting KOed. I wonder what would have happened if he fought Munoz in that shape.

Oh and Sonnen's best performance was ofc against Silva, a loss followed by Okami. The win over Filho means nothing because it looked like Filho had injected a pound of heroin into his body before the fight. If that's his best performance then that's a poor reflection on Chael.

Agree on the 2nd Filho fight sure Filho was highly ranked but seriously can anyone see that as Chael's best performance. I actually think Marquart was Sonnen's best performance pretty sure he was a big under dog too.

Lads whatever happened to styles make fights.

Anyone here want to argue that Silva is a strong or has as good TDD as Bisping?

Anyone see Anderson putting Chael into the fence like Bisping did.

people cant see how its styles making for different fights, Bisping is clearly better at wrestling than Silva but worse at everything else. Sonnen went in and tried to wrestle him and supprise supprise it wasnt as effective as when he did it against skinny Anderson.

Sonnen wont have any problems dumping Silva into the ground. He fought the blueprint to beat Silva and I dont see why he cant repeat it (but not get tapped!)

Really he only got tapped because he was being a showman and taking the piss with things like double punches, and looked at the clock and though he would keep throwing tired meaningless shots because he wanted to show Anderson he didnt stop punching from bell to bell. A show off mistake, one Im sure he wont repeat.

Good call on the Nate fight mate, he hit him with a punch every second of that fight and as far as I remember Nate was top 3 ranked and didnt mount a bit of offence.

As much as I dislike Sonnen, I think that Ben's right here. For all of Bispings faults, he has very good TDD. Silva, not so much. Sonnen's gameplan, will surely be to repeat the first fight. Outstrike Silva on the feet, and whenever possible, put him on his back. I expect to see a very similar fight to the first one, only with a little more LaynPray from Sonnen.

If the first round was 10-10 then the last round was 10-8 Sonnen. If you are going to be more precise with the scoring it has to go both ways.

It's not that Filho isn't a very good fighter, it's that he had his head up is ass and it's been stuck there ever since. Biggest waste of talent in MMA today by far IMO.

I know that styles make fights but Bispings take down defense isn't exactly world class. Yes it is one of his stronger aspects but he's been taken down numerous times before and by below average fighters. He was never known for his strength either. The fight also showed IMO that Sonnen has next to no chance against Jones. If he can't handle Bisping's strength what do you think Jones would do to him?

The Maurqaurdt performance was very good but I still think Okami was a better win because no one had ever dominated him like that and Okami is a better fighter than Nate IMO. He was also quite close to being subbed against Nate.
