Mark Munoz discusses wrestling match with Chael Sonnen

    Post  The_Axe_Emperor on Fri Nov 25, 2011 2:01 am

Mark Munoz was a guest on the Fight Fix with Dustin Green this week, and covered a few topics. His UFC 138 bout with Chris Leben was discussed, as was a possible opponent in the near future - Chael Sonnen. Rumors are spreading that Munoz will be meeting Sonnen at UFC on Fox 2 in January, but nothing has been confirmed yet. It turns out that Munoz and Chael already have some history though. Here's the amusing quote, followed by the full video:

"We competed in college together. He wrestled at Oregon University, I wrestled at Oklahoma State. We end up going at it and I end up beating him pretty handily. But in that, he tried to submit me in a kneebar and then changed it into an ankle lock. No, sorry, a heel hook. Not a legal move in wrestling. He tried doing that to me and I felt my ankle pop and was like ‘aah’ and I knew that he did it so that he could try to come back. I was actually beating him pretty handily. I got upset during that match and was just ruthless in that fight afterwards.
Years later we end up having dinner together and my wife is sitting at the table and she gets pretty upset, saying 'What's Chael Sonnen doing here? I hate that guy; he tried to hurt my husband.' Out of the blue, she said 'So, can you tell me why you did that?' He pretty much explained himself and… he's a good guy, man. He was like 'Can you blame me? I was getting beat!' So I guess...if you ain't cheating, you ain't trying."

Munoz doesn't deserve to fight Sonnen. He got a lucky decision against Maia and then beat up Leben who isn't relevant. Sonnen would destroy him.

Give Munoz the winner of the TUF Coaches. They're on his level. A level that is well below the title contenders.

Dana's already confirmed Chael-Anderson, but with Anderson out injured(injured from what does anyone know?) Munoz is being sent in to try and keep Sonnen occupied.

it would be rather hilarious to see Sonnen knocked out by Munoz, but in reality Sonnen will beat him.

Shoulder bursitis i think, but maybe something else as it must be pretty bad to rule him out till July.

I think Anderson is just taking a break and waiting until next Brazil card. Should probably work on takedown defense in the mean time aswell!!!

I think Anderson is scared of losing his belt.

Looking at their Styles they are both Wrestlers who have good boxing and good ground and pound.

Munoz probabally hits a little harder but I think Sonnen is better in every other aspect, Sonnen is doing what Pettis did, fighting a tough contender and risking a title shot.

As far as Wrestling in MMA fights I think Sonnen looks better. Id imagine it will be him on top if the fight hits the ground.

Think Chael wins this at a canter TBH unless he gets caught by Munoz.

Munoz got handled easily by Okami, and Sonnen totally dominated Okami. I know MMA match doesnt always work, but in this case all 3 guys have pretty much the same style, and i think it gives a good indication on how they all ranked.

Munoz also got taken down easily by Chris Leben. If Leben can take him down, Sonnen will have no trouble.

Maia outstruck Munoz pretty easily, so I think if Sonnen wants to, he can stand with Munoz for the entire fight. Munoz was KO'd by Matt Hamill FFS.
