Fedor in talks with UFC again; Cain Velasquez could be next fight

    Post  payneNglory1 on Mon Nov 21, 2011 11:12 pm

After a three-fight losing streak in Strikeforce, Fedor Emelianenko is now back on the winning side of the field after he defeated Jeff Monson dominantly in Moscow, Russia yesterday via unanimous decision. Fedor had a "sprawl and brawl"-type gamplan and played the fight safe. Monson had to be carried out of the ring due to some vicious leg kicks thrown by Fedor, a weapon we rarely see him utilize.

There has been talk speculating that Fedor Emelianenko's next opponent is going to be Olympian Satoshi Ishii on New Years. However, a source from Emelianenko's camp has informed us that they are negotiating with the UFC once again.

The terms are much different now due to the fact that he lost three in a row and is no longer as valuable as he once was, and Fedor's management knows this. As of right now, nothing has been signed, but negotiations are going smoothly.

The source states that if Fedor Emelianenko is to sign with the UFC, his first fight will be against former Heavyweight Champion, Cain Velasquez. It is unclear whether or not Fedor Emelianenko will be fighting Satoshi Ishii on New Years.

M-1 does understand that if they do sign with the UFC, there will be no co-promotion. The focus is more now on Fedor Emelianenko's career rather than M-1 itself.

I'd still like to see him in the UFC. Monson nowadays is a walking punching bag so it's hard to really judge him on that performance but Fedor is Fedor. If he can refocus himself he can still be the beast he once was and he adds quality to an ever improving HW division. There are still some big fights for him such as Lesnar, Overroid, Velasquez possibly Barnett if he makes the move. Velasquez is a tough first fight though, I'd rather he fight the Mir-Nog winner.

I don't believe the Cain bit,as if the UFC would be setting up an opponent for him without having him already signed.

But if this story is bullshit or not,I'd still personally love to see him in the UFC,he's still a very good fighter and i think he still has a good few fights left in him.
I don't think he'll be winning the belt, but there are still plenty of cracking fights for him in the UFC,win or lose,he's still entertaining and i'd like to see him fight.

Yeah he's a legend and some of his fans would prefer him to retire on a win,but if he's still got the hunger to continue fighting and wants to finally test himself on the biggest current stage for MMA,than I'm all good with watching him continue.

but lets not forget,we have been reading story's like this one for the last 5 odd years,I'll believe it when I see it.

Lets hope M-1 realise UFC have them by the balls this time. Its cool UFC are going after him when they could have tried to write him out of MMA history, maby theyll offer Frank Shamrock a job and forgive him Laughing

Fedor did better than Cormier against Monson. Before Monson lost to Cormier people didnt say he was finished either. I reckon he is but if Fedor fought a walking punch bag at least he looked better doing it than Cormier who is very highly regarded.

Fedor vs Cain is a great fight. I think Cains boxing is a bit tighter and he will get off first. I dont like this fight for Fedor even if he is coming off a win and Cain a bad loss.

For the last time, please dont fuck this up M-1!!

Cant see it happening, this story reeks of BS. Fedor just fought yesterday and i doubt UFC made a move for him and had Cain lined up and the story was leaked in just under 24 hrs from his fight yesterday.

M-1 would have to lower their demands by a long way fopr this to happen anyway, and i dont see it happening,

If Fedor catches Cain on the chin he's going to sleep. But Cain could quite easily take him down and hold him down for 15 minutes.

If Fedor comes to the UFC it should be under the understanding that he's fighting at LHW.

I think his first fight in the UFC (if- big if, he signs, of course) should be a rematch with Werdum.

The only Heavyweight in the UFC I cannot see Fedor beating right now is JDS. Velasquez has the skills but also has a mediocre chin, whilst REEM has piss poor cardio.

Soon as Cain gets ko'd his chin is mediocre?

I know people will defer to the Kongo fight but come on. He's lost one fight against what people deem to see as the legit number 1 HW. How's Fedors last fights gone down?

I dont get that? What you mean by Hendo being number 2 if he steps up?

Its all bollox and internet rumors, M-1 have denied it and it hasnt reached the front pages of any MMA website. The whole Fedor in UFC talks will be a headline after every one of his fights... wait and see!

UFC will just take the other option and kill his Legacy by never talking about him, unless its him on the loosing side of Werdum/Hendo/Bigfoot's Highlights.

Why is Cains chin anything but Mediocre, in his very short MMA career we have seen him Dropped, Rocked and KO'd against the last 2 strikers he has fought.

Crocop, Nelson and Carwin all took his shots, Cain got dropped a lot easier.

Cains chin isnt good. Thats pretty clear, but an Iron chin isnt as improtant in MMA as it is in say Boxing becaue of the grappling element.

I meant cos Hendo crushed Fedor and we were talking about Fedor fighting at HW. I know it's hypothetical

Time will tell what his chin is like. As you said his career is very short but Kongo throws hard and yeah they rocked Cain but they didn't put him away. It's hard to say from the JDS punch what Cains chin is like. When your temple gets smashed and your equilibrium goes your a sitting duck. Nelson ate uppercut after uppercut against JDS. If he'd have been hit in the temple I'm thinking there may have been a different outcome

Cain has beaten literally no elite level fighters, gets smoked in barely a minute the one time he fights one, yet there is no way he loses to Fedor?

I'm not even saying Fedor would be favourite, I'm just saying he could win because he is capable of landing a big punch on anyone and Cains chin is average at best.

And who are JDS' elite level victories over then? Werdum long before he was considered top level and Carwin? Are they any better than Lesnar and Big Nog?

Again it's opinion but I cannot see how far Cain has dropped in people's opinion to make them think Fedor will beat him. Is Fedor even ranked?

And if Cain has beaten no one I'd be interested to see your HW rankings. Would it be JDS top then all the rest on the same level below?

So, in your opinion, if you don't beat an elite level opponent you cannot be ranked?

Again, at no point have I said I think Fedor would beat Velasquez. I said there is a genuine possibility that he would. That is all, and that shouldn't really be arguable.

No I'm saying Fedor doesn't deserve to be ranked at all because he's not in the top 10 anymore. The fact that anyone could beat anyone shouldn't really be arguable in any sport

Fedor (12th ranked) vs Cain (2nd ranked)

It is what it is, I reckon Cain wins. Look at the Hendo fight, Fedor was doing well before the stoppage, I reckon put him in with any of the top 5 Lhw and he will be very competitve. Hw is a different story.

Big Guys like Rothwell or Lesnar didnt smother him with their size, He had no trouble with them. Fedor on the othe Hand goes in against Bigfoot and gets squashed and Rogers who lost to Eddie Sanchze and nearly lost to Warpath, gives Fedor trouble.

Cain isnt Huge physically but he is a good bit bigger and a few years younger. Not unthinkable 12th ranked could beat 2nd (or possible 3rd ranked after the Overeem fight) but Id put him as about as big an underdog as those rankings suggest.

Honestly his chin might not be his strong point but would anyone take a bet on Hendo to beat him?

I just read M-1 saying they would love to Co-Promote the fight in Russia.... here we go again! They are sticking to their guns on this Co-Promotion, UFC will crack any day now
