Alistair Overeem has departed the Golden Glory team.

After twelve years with the Dutch outfit, which enjoys a tremendous reputation as a centre of kickboxing excellence and is a major player on the K-1 circuit, Overeem is now going solo.

Fighters Only learned of the split earlier today but when contacted, Golden Glory could not confirm it. Overeem has since used Twitter to make a short announcement.

“I would like to make a statement regarding the recent news of the separation from my long-time management Golden Glory. As with any relationship, there are good times and bad times - you have your common ground and your differences,” he said.

“As with any relationship, you have trust. When differences lead to a breach of trust, there's no turning back and no way to continue a positive, working relationship. I don't air my dirty laundry. I would appreciate the respect regarding my privacy to not disclose any further details on this matter.

“Again, I would like to thank team Golden Glory for all the years we worked together and wish them success for the future.”

Overeem was until recently a part of Strikeforce, holding its heavyweight belt and being a participant in the ongoing Grand Prix. But he exited both the tournament and the champion’s spot as part of a dispute with Zuffa.

Shortly afterwards, every Golden Glory fighter under contract to Zuffa - with the exception of Sergei Kharitonov, who was also part of the Grand Prix - was dropped from their contracts. The official reason was that Golden Glory business practices were ‘incompatible’ with UFC practices.

Specifically, Golden Glory required fighter purses to be paid directly to the company. The UFC pays fighters directly and then the fight pays the manager their commission. Golden Glory defended its position by pointing out the international nature of its roster and operations, but agreed to accept UFC practices if it would make a new deal possible.

However, sources behind the scenes indicate that there was more to the Zuffa/Golden Glory fallout. The Dutch outfit, which has considerable resources thanks to the wealth of some of those involved in its infrastructure, had been in talks with Strikeforce about staging events in the US with the specific aim of developing a stronger and more competitive rivalry with the UFC.

Overeem signed a multi-fight UFC deal recently and will face former champion Brock Lesnar at UFC 140. It is a contenders bout and the winner will go on to challenge the winner of the Cain Velasquez/Junior Dos Santos title fight taking place later this year.

Golden Glory head Bas Boon today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that he may take legal action against the fighter.

"I wasn't really surprised, actually, after the last three months because he already had a lot of different ideas on how he would divide certain percentages which were normal in the past, and apparently, are not now," he said. "I think the judge will decide on this issue that we have, and when that is decided, we will see who was right and who was not."

Martin De Jong, one of Overeem's trainers at Golden Glory, believes Overeem's departure relates only to the management side of his relationship with the team, but he isn't sure whether the fighter will train with him again.

"I'm stuck in the middle," he said.

Rumours are going around that Gokhan Saki has also left GG and there could be alot more GG fighters leaving to go Stateside.

Reem,Saki and some more of the dutch kickboxers could really be a great help to the US MMA scene.

What Team do you think would be the best fit for them in the US?

Reem is planning to start his own camp so I don't think we'll be seeing him in any existing camp any time soon. If he does go to an existing camp, just as long as he doesn't go to a camp that could mean he wouldn't face one of his rivals (e.g AKA for Cain or Blackhouse for JDS) then i'm not too fussed where he goes. Lesnar needs someone of Reem's ability in his camp but obviously that's not happening, maybe after the fight they might do some training together, Lesnar helping Reem with Lesnar and vice versa, Lesnar and Couture became good friends and trained together following their fight.

Don't really like this news. For him to go off on his own is a bad idea too... Maybe he got a bit to big for his boots, he needs to concerntrate on his fighting now! Does any body know details of Overeems contract? and weather he can still fight in K1?

    K-1 is dead anyway......

When Alistair Overeem made the decision to leave behind the two organizations in which he had won heavyweight titles -- Strikeforce and K-1 -- and sign an exclusive agreement with the UFC, one consideration is that he knew the UFC would actually pay him, something that hasn't been the case for all his fights.

Overeem said on The MMA Hour that he still hasn't been paid for winning the K-1 World Grand Prix Final in 2010.

"They didn't pay me," Overeem said. "It's a lot of money, I can tell you that."

Overeem said he expects to take legal action against FEG, the parent company of K-1, but he's skeptical that he'll ever collect what he's owed.

"We're on the verge of starting up legal action, but Japan is a hard environment to move. You have the language barrier, you have the culture barrier. Are we expecting something from it? It's hard to say. I actually think it's going to be really hard. FEG has a lot of outstanding liabilities, a lot of unpaid bills, so maybe mine is just going to be put underneath the stack of the other bills. They have a lot of debt."

Overeem said he feels even worse for Peter Aerts, whom Overeem knocked out to win the K-1 World Grand Prix, and who didn't get paid anything.

"You get your ass kicked and you don't get paid? That's just a shame," Overeem said But Overeem said he's pleased with his recent business decision to sign with the UFC, where he will face Brock Lesnar in December. Overeem said that he was engaged in tough negotiations with Strikeforce, which is also owned by UFC parent company Zuffa, before finally being released by Strikeforce only to be re-signed by the UFC. He says that was a real negotiation and that it wasn't just posturing by the UFC to move him from Strikeforce to the UFC.

"I don't think it all was a trick and a ploy to get me into the UFC," Overeem said.

Now Overeem's focus is on Lesnar, whom Overeem views as a dangerous opponent.

"I do definitely think he brings it. I do definitely think he fights to win, to destroy his opponents," Overeem said. "I expect him to come full force. I expect him to be 100 percent come Dec. 30."

If Overeem beats Lesnar, he would likely face the winning of the upcoming heavyweight title fight between Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos.

"There are a couple of guys who are interesting fights for me and those guys happen to be in the UFC," Overeem said. "That is the big show these days. There were other fights out there, there were other options, but everybody has been sending me messages, hassling me, telling me go to the UFC, Alistair, when are you going to the UFC? ... I always want to fight the best guys, the best guys are in the UFC, so of course I want to fight in the UFC."

Former Strikeforce heavyweight champion and K-1 kickboxing kingpin Alistair Overeem, who signed a "long term" deal with Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) back in September, has more than just a new promotion to call home.

He's also aligned himself with a new training camp.

Overeem, who will make his Octagon debut at UFC 141 on Dec. 30 in Las Vegas, against former division champion Brock Lesnar, announced on today's MMA Hour that he is now a member of "Sin City's" Xtreme Couture camp.

Apparently the Glory wasn't Golden enough for him.

Or it could be the breach of trust he alluded to in a public statement following his split with the Golden Glory fight camp, a place he's called home his entire career.

    No longer.

Now, "Demolition Man" will be rubbing elbows with Randy Couture, Forrest Griffin, Gray Maynard and more.

That was my first pick of US gyms for him to join when it was first announced he had left GG.
Think that's a great move for him,for his next fight and his long term career.
Randy has good knowledge for him about brock, having fought and trained with him,and it's going to be just a good place for him to work on his wrestling defence.

He will learn alot there and he will be a great addition for the Xtreme boys to learn off.

Saw the Video of his talking about the split and training at Xtreme couture.

Ray Sefo is a friedn of Overeem and that was part of the reason he joined Coutures gym. Sefo said in the video K-1 owe him over 700K!!! He said he was dieting and looked in pretty good shape, I hope UFC take him from SF and put him in with Mark Hunt, I really want to see that rematch badly.

Overeem will do good at Xtreme couture I reckon your right Payne its a great place for him to bee seeing as Randy has experience with Brock. Like he said GG didnt really provide any MMA sparring partners, I hope he just works constantly on that TDD, Ill be gutted if he looses to Lesnar.
