Will Ricardo Arona join the UFC before the end of 2012

    Post  rudeboyben84 on Wed Oct 05, 2011 2:58 pm

Arona was considered one of MMA's top p4p fighters back in the day, notching up wins over Wanderlei Silva in his prime, Overeem, Sakuraba and Dan Henderson (As well as many fans seeing him as the 1st man to beat Fedor if the fight were scored under modern MMA rules)

In 2009 he anounced his return and beat Marvin Eastman in a pretty lackluster performance and since then has gone virtually unheard of.

In an interview a couple of months back he said that he had been offered a a contract with SF before the Zuffa buyover but hadnt taken it because he wanted to join the UFC.

Probabally a bad move on reflection as if he had of fought and won under the SF banner no doubt UFC would have been calling him up to their roster.

At 33 Arona is a 3X ADCC winner with only 19 MMA fights and 3 KO losses under his belt he hasnt a lot of Mileage.

Does anyone see him finally joining UFC before the end of next year?

I think the real question here is will Ricardo Arona fight again before the end of 2012, to which I would still answer no.

Probably not I'll be honest I don't think Ricardo wants to fight any more he obviously seems happy with his life and probably doesn't need to fight on.

Sure It would great to see Arona return but only for the right reasons.

Ill try and dig this interview out lads, I think it was only a couple of months ago at most, he has his heart set on coming to the UFC. It would be sad if his career ended so young.

Arona and Filho are the two biggest "should have beens" in MMA history.

I don't think he will. I think Sheldan's right, I don't even think he'll fight before the end of next year!

I fucking hope so, he is such a talented fighter. His losses have come at hands of questionable decision losses to Wandi and Fedor, That slam vs Rampage (in a fight he was winning), Ko loss to the greatest version of Shogun ever and a fluke against Sokudju. Injuries have taken there toll clearly but I would be quite sad if he didn't give it one last go in the UFC. I'm not saying he's get the belt but he could easily break the top 5. Such a waste of talent.

Arona should be sitting on his arse gathering dust, he should string togeather a few wins, maby the winner of Soko vs Jimmo? Something like that, there isnt a lot outside UFC but I reckon he should look to get a win and rid of ring rust, I think UFC would be much more interested if he did.

Soko vs Jimmo winner - Will be top 20ish

Other than that fighters outside Zuffa (or Bellator where he would have to sign a contract)

    Paulo Filho
    Teixeira
    Houston Alexander
    Moise Rimbon
    Ishii
    Mizuno

Hardly slim pickings all 6 of these guys are top 30-40 (with the exception of Filho probabally but he has name value) He should take a tune up fight and maby string 2 wins togeather to get UFC interested.

He'll never fight Filho though. They're like brothers.
