I had my run down of the fights ready (it took me bloody ages)but my computer fucked up,managed to copy it before it died though so I'll post it here.
Well what a great event that was,(apart from the Stevenson v Vasquez and the Brown v Howard fights) this was excellent from start to finish, devastating Ko's,great subs and brilliant, slick, clever action, this event had it all.
Edward Faaloloto vs. Michael JohnsonThis fight gt the night off to a really good start,Johnson came out fast but Faaloloto quickly started taking control of the stand up and soon opened up a big cut above Johnson left eye from a good sharp elbow.
Just as i thought Faaloloto was taking full control of this fight and looked like breaking johnson down, they clinched up and Johnson landed a good knee from the Thai plum, which seemed to instantly empty Faaloloto's tank,he dropped straight to the mat and johnson pounced and finished him with a few big hammerfists,I actually thought Faaloloto was going to tap from those strikes but the ref jumped in and stopped the fight.
Johnson 1st rd TKO
Matt Grice vs. Ricardo LamasThe first fight was instantly followed by another impressive fight,Lamas started this fight on the front foot, pushing Grice backwards,Lamas got Grice against the cage and managed to get him down and get in side control,Lamas couldn't improve his position after a minute or so of trying,so he backed out and got back to his feet.
Grice came at Lamas straight away swinging some big left hands but he ate a sweet kick to the face that had him basically out on his feet doing the stanky leg thing,Grice trys his best to recover and goes for a leg with only about 30 seconds left in the rd but Lamas doesn't give him the chance to survive and keeps blasting away untill the ref steps in.
Lamas 1st rd TKO
Nik Lentz vs. Charles OliveiraOliveria is quick becoming on of my favorite LW's,the boys got it all,a great ground game, good stand up and he always comes to fight.
Oliveria starts of with a few low kicks and Lentz catches one and takes him down,Lentz looked tentative to stay on the ground with oliveria as he instantly starts throwing sub attempts up from the bottom, Oliveria then lands a nice up kick to the face before he gets back to his feet. When up he starts goes straight on the attack, throwing shots and trying to land knees and hip throws every time they clinched up.Oliveria then catches and drops Lentz with a clean punch and instantly grabs Lentz neck for the Guillotine,Lentz defends it well and manages to pop his head out and then slaps on his own Guillotine to Oliveria,Oliveria escapes and goes on the attack with more strikes, they clinch up but oliveria manages to get the hip throw and finishes the rd on top landing a few strikes.
Oliveria rd
Oliveria comes straight out with a flying knee but Lentz catches it and takes him down,Oliveria instantly throws his legs up and works for the triangle,Lentz avoids it but ends up on his back trying to squeeze out a guillotine.
Oliveria makes space to stand up and lands a really hard knee to Lentz face, the problem being Lentz still had both knees firmly planted to the matt,it was a blatant illegal knee which everyone watching saw apart from the man that counts, the ref(blind bastard)
Lentz was obviously really hurt from that shot but oliveria did his job, went straight on the attack with more shots before taking Lentz back and sinking in the rear naked.
Great fight.
Oliveria 2nd rd sub
Daniel Roberts vs. Rich AttonitoThis was an OK fight, really glad Attonito got the win because i personally think Roberts is poor, crappy stand up and shocking cardio.
The first rd was close, with attonito constantly walking roberts down and Roberts occasionally exploding with superman punches and what not.
Toss up who won that rd,might just give it Roberts.
Roberts started the second strong, getting Attonito down and taking his back, but for how highly skilled on the ground Roberts is supposed to be,he could do fuck all with it,once Attonito escaped you could see Roberts was now fighting on fumes,Attonito easily took the rest of the rd finishing on top landing some GNP.
easy attonito rd
In the last rd roberts was a dead man walking,Attonito easily won the rd but he seemed to lack that killer instict i'd like to of seen to get in there and finish a opponent that now lacked any threat at all(thank god though I had Attonito for a UD)
Attonito UD
Joe Lauzon vs. Curt WarburtonThis was a crazy fight,I was just thinking that I've never seen Lauzon start so slow,Warburton seemed to have his distance sorted and was keeping Joe at arms length and was popping him with some straight clean shots, when all of a sudden Joe lands a big shot and swarms Warburton with elbows'punches and knees to the body,he then grabs a kimura, wraps his legs around Warburtons head and shoulders and just cranks it,It looked nasty,i could of swore that arm was dislocated in every joint from the shoulder down, thank fuck warburton finally tapped.
Absolutely brilliant sudden explosion, topped of with a viscous sub
lauzon 1s rd sub
Joe Stevenson vs. Javier VazquezGot nothing good to say about this match up,awful fight,Stevenson was absolutely shocking and offered absolutely nothing in the form of an offensive game and to be honest Vasquez was only slightly better, even before he was obviously gassed half way through the second rd.
Shocker
Vazquez UD
Tyson Griffin vs. Manny GamburyanI enjoyed this battle,a proper workman like performance from Tyson who looks great at this weight.
in he first rd,there was nothing between them really, griffin was the one stalking manny and trying to set the pace, but manny did get a nice throw in there and had a guillotine attempt.
Might of just gave manny that rd
Griffin started taking over the fight in the second, landing alot more hard leg kicks (and a couple of nut shots)and cleaner punches, also he's having a ton of success sprawling and stuffing all of manny attempts to grab a hold of him.
Tyson rd
Both start the last pretty aggresive and manny has a better time actually grabbing a hold of manny, but tyson's working so hard that he just keeps popping out of everything, even when Manny had him in the air for a slam, tyson just popped out of trouble.
Griffin is still landing plenty of kicks and punches during this time also, infact you could tell manny's leg was hurting him.
Another close Rd,but I think Griffin did more damage and just worked that bit harder, not just in the last rd,but all fight really.
Griffin UD
Matt Mitrione vs. Christian Morecraftsay what you want about meathead,he keeps impressing me with each performance.
Mittrione basically out classed Morecraft all fight, his movement and athleticism for a big lad is impressive,he hits like a mack truck and can't take a punch aswell.
Mitrione completely out boxed Morecraft in the first rd,landing some nice combos,he was unlucky not to get the 1st rd KO,but credit to Morecraft,he looked out when he got dropped but he had enough wits about him to grab mitrione and ride out the end of the rd.
Easy mitrione rd
Morecraft starts this rd alot better and actually manages to get mitrione down,he can't really do anything with it and Mitrione gets back to his feet,Morecraft gets another takedown but again Mitrione is back to his feet in no time.
they finally stand up and separate, when mitrione lands a flush 3 shot combo,Mitrione steps back before morecraft hits the deck,he knew he was out after the last punch.
Mitrione 2nd rd KO
Matt Brown vs. John HowardAnother poor fight, boring, boring, boring, lost interest halfway through the second rd,went to the bathroom, refilled my drink and the crap was still going on.
Not really that interested in seeing either of them fight in the UFC again after that to be honest.
Rick Story vs. Charlie BrennemanGood fight, shocking reffing but really impressed with brenneman's heart and effort he put into that fight.
I didn't expect it but Brenneman out wrestled, out worked and controlled the first two rds,I had story needing a finish going into the third rd.
the third rd was abit controversial though through some terrible reffing,Story started like he knew he was losing,he comes straight out throwing and landing some solid punches,Brenneman grabs the single leg and takes him down again, though Story grabs his arm and is working hard to pull it out for the sub,but for some reason the ref hasn't a clue what he's trying to do and stands them up
Brenneman gets another takedown and Story goes straight back to work on prizing that arm out again(thought the donut ref was going to stand them again) and then he moves for a triangle attempt, which brenneman escapes, story gets one more attempt at trying to get the Kimura, but Brennemans stays tight on top and rides out the last seconds of the rd.
Story easily won the last rd,but it wasn't enough.
Brenneman UD
Cheick Kongo vs. Pat BarryI don't think there is any other word that sums up the main event but WOW.
I did enjoy watching Barry start this fight off with a takedown attempt, didn't see that coming
they then started trading leg kicks, which I think Kongo was having abit more success with but then barry let loose a big over hand right that dropped Kongo,Barry then swarmed him with big shots, kongo's legs were gone and he was flopping all over the place, after each big shot,he might of actually been out for a split second after one of them but his head and eyes seemed to come straight back into focus,I thought Mirgolloti did a fantastic job of not stopping it,barry had Kongo slumped into a corner when all of a sudden Kongo lands a nice right hook to the side of barrys head as he's coming in and then followed it up with a picture perfect uppercut right, straight on the button,to show kongo all though hurt had his sense's about him,he shot in for the takedown after that punch, realised Barry was in trouble and landed a few GNP punches to Barrys face, they weren't needed because barry was stiff and his eyes were still rolling around his head from that sweet shot(not having ago at kongo for those shots though,he did what he was supposed to do IMO)
Kongo 1st rd KO
